About Pompeii 99
Part of the L.A. death rock scene of the early '80s, Pompeii 99 is probably best known for being absorbed into the much betterknown goth rock outfit Christian Death. The band was founded in 1981 by Australianborn guitarist/singer Valor Kand and keyboardist/singer Gitane Demone, who met via an ad in the paper when Kand was fresh out of high school. Fascinated by Nostradamus, Kand took the band name from a prophecy that a disaster similar to that of Pompeii would befall humanity in the year 1999....
