Mexican singer/songwriter Polo Urias (born Leopoldo Urias Ramírez) got involved in local traditional music in 1975 when he joined his brothers Raúl, Jesús, Isreal, and Alberto to perform as los Jilgueros del Arroyo. He later became the lead singer of los Rieleros del Norte. In 1995, Polo Urias formed la Máquina Norteña with bassist/singer Jody Vásquez, sax player Keith Nieto, percussionist Erick Urias, accordionist/keyboardist Jimmy Torres, and drummer Aarón Urias. The group signed up to Fonovisa that same year, debuting with the release of Polo Urias y Su Máquina Norteña.
