    This is a copy of their King Federal recording containing some of their finest pre-Mercury gospel-inspired ballads and jumps recorded between 1954 and 1956, when Paul Robi sang with the group, and is for the most part duplicated by the King (Gusto) release reissued in 1977, except for the fine original version of "Only You," without the whistling background....This is The Platters at their least-commercial best.

The Platters started out as a Los Angelesbased doo wop group with little identity of their own to make them stand out from the pack. They made their first records for Federal, a subsidiary of Cincinnati's King Records.
