Great
Pros: Good Realism. True it was like that. I was with the infantry,

The movie depicts a great realistic truth to the war. It explains that the war was real. It wasnt there fault we lost. It was inevvidible. Charlie sheens speech about the way the ones who faught for us were the outcasts of society protecting the people who shunend them.

The picture was not only compelling but very moving.It was an excellent portrail of the vietnam war. I will absolutely rent it again and again!

Probably one of the best films ever made regarding the horror of the Viet Nam war.
There are several realistic films out there - such as - Born on the 4th of July - Apocalypse Now - Full Metal Jacket - Casualties of War & of course The Deer Hunter among others.
Platoon however, captures an essence of war that takes you in very close - side by side with the enlisted man.
The horror's of war not only of being there and having to do what you have to do to survive but also the insanity & reality of being somewhere that you just dont belong as a human being.
Platoon also makes us realize the need for the buddy system during war & how that effects each individual with there own personal problems and ideals. Really a terrific example of how great a film can be - when the correct consultants are advising you in the making of the film. This is certainly at least an 8 on a scale of 10 in my review. Wake Up People! Why else would AFI put this in their top ten...they don't just put any ole film on there! There is a stroke of genius mixed with realism and thats what is takes to make a great film such as this. There are very few films that can portray something that happened as aweful as the Vietnam War.

This was the ONLY movie I have ever fell asleep in.
The movie was awful,the acting stunk and it certainly did not show anyone involved in Vietnam in a good light.
If you want to see a good war movie,stick with a classic like In Harms Way.

This is one of the best war movies ever made. dafoe and bergenger's characters are rich and they personify good and evil perfectly. It's heart wrenching, smart and unforgetable. and for acompletely unexpected bonus - Oliver Stone has no stupid ass indian imagery running amok :)

If you haven't seen this movie, either rent it tonight or buy it! Details the trials and tribulations of a young "rich kid" and his divided platoon as they experience the reality and horrors that were the Vietnam war. Sheen, Dafoe and Berringer give career performances. This is truly a must see!!

Before their could be a Saving Private Ryan, there needed to be a Platoon, Oliver Stone's brilliant memorial to his own Vietnam experiences. The film tracks the tale of a young private torn between two bipolar superiors amidst the chaos of the Vietnam conflict. Tom Berenger and Willem Defoe are unforgettable and Charlie Sheen shows early promise in this film that made Oliver Stone a household name.

Platoon is a fantastic film that gives you a good idea of what the war was like and it shows alot of the tradgety's and horror's a soldier goes through on his tour of duty.

Platoon is a well done, truthful film which highlights the disorder and death in the war. The film makes you really think about what happened and the command structure within this war. Check it out.

The movie was a good war movie for the time period it was filmed in. It is set in Vietnam/Cambodia. It is similar to Saving Private Ryan in the aspect of it's special effects and gorriness. Like I said, for 1986 it is a great war film. The stars were pretty good. Charlie Sheen is no war hero. If only he had not turned out to be such a bad ass.
