Pros: acting, period piece, story line
Cons: DVD extras,picture quality
Places in the Heart has many places for different people. It is just about that, people. It is a time where jobs were hard to find, because of the great depression. When family values were looked highly upon and segregation was just forming. It is hard to look back on those times and try to imagine they did not happen. The fact is that is how it was back in the day and one cannot ignore. Sally Field playes a mother newly widowed of two children Frank and Possum. Her husband was killed in the beginning of the move and Sally is forced to provide for her family, something her husband always did. Set in south Texas she battles heat, tornados, even picking cotton in order to keep her family and home. Field was a great choice for this character because the role demanded for physical, as well as mental strength. It is no wonder that she received the academy award for her role as Mrs. Spaulding. It is a story of courage, will and the guts stand for what you belive in and what you belive in yourself. ...
