    Philips Plasma HDTV Review

Pros: Ambilight, Auto Format, FREE hd channels

    Cons: none

For my personal viewing, I will probably not ever buy another brand. I wrote off the ambilight feature when I first bought this tv, but after having it, I can't imagine not having it. Most plasma screens are about the same now a days, so the extr...a features are what most people base their buys on. Also compared to other tv's, I found the menu functions are a lot easier and more user friendly. Also with the built in HD tuner, you can plug the coax cable straight into the tv, auto program the channels and get free hd and premium channels. This tv has been great and well worth the money I spend on it. goodluck! Read more Less

Pros: everything is an incredble value here, dollar 4dollar the best!

Cons: the sound sucks but if you don't buy a surround system then you're in the wrong place

we got a great deal because the salesman didn't think much of the brand! it was a display model for 600 hours and had a small scratch on the sreen that you really had to look for so he took off $500 off of what it would normally sell for! my wife... is from europe and philips is the biggest over there so we were thrilled at his knowledge "then". i have since gone in there and he has said 3x "that" was the best deal ever given now that he knows what he is selling "now". the ambilite is just the best thing ever! it's details like these that separate the men from the boys. details to features and quality. i like the fact that philips is not as known yet here because we feel they're trying a little harder like avis had to initially. the sound sucks but with a system 7.1 "oh my god!", it's orgasmic. try coscos or circut city (where we got ours) and see if you can find a display unit. call philips and ask them about the set. a lot of the ambilites we upgraded initially. good luck and happy viewing! Philips 42PF9631D

Elegant HDTV offers above-average image quality and design. With its wide black bezel, silvery speakers, and semitransparent stand, the Philips 42PF9631D 42-inch plasma HDTV is a graceful and imposing presence. If you walk around the unit, you'll find more to admire: well-chosen, easy-to-reach inputs and outputs; a lighted remote; and the unusual Ambilight backlighting panels. The most important part of any television, though, is the picture it presents on its screen, and the 42PF9631D more than holds its own on that score. And despite its good image quality and luxurious trimmings, the 42PF9631D sells for a list price of $2399--not cheap, but not the steepest we've seen in this size, either (and street prices are often lower than list prices).
