Pet Sematary (1989)

plot: The Creeds have just moved to a small New England town, a husband and wife with their 2 kids plan on making it their new home in the old house. When a cat is found dead alongside the highway named Church, Louis Creed decides he wants to resurrect the cat before his family returns. Louis is told by neighbor Judd about a creepy pet cemetary, and behind it an Indian burial ground where the dead come back. But each must bury their own, that's the rule. When the Creeds' cat comes back from the dead it starts a whole new devastating line of events.
review: "Pet Sematary" was one of the first horror movies I remember watching as a child. It is a creepy and disturbing film at times, overall it really leaves an impact on the audience because its not just a typical horror movie but it has a real supernatural element to it. The Creeds are a standard family that moves to a little town in what seems like the middle of nowhere, Louis Creed really likes the home and finds out that there's more that meets the eye. The older man across the street, Judd, tells Louis about a creepy old cemetary that is supposedly haunted. Beyond the old cemetary where numerous pets are buried Judd tells him about an acient burial ground, that the Indians once made. If someone love and are real close to dies, there is a slight chance the burial ground can actually bring them back to life, resurrect the corpse. What sounds like a foolish myth becomes a reality, Louis' cat is first resurrected from the dead then his son, little Gage. After that his own wife comes back once dead too, the only survivor ends up being Ellie Creed. The directing of "Pet Sematary" was good by Mary Lambert, the writing was great, and the allaround acting was good for such a generic cast imo. I consider this a creepy horror/supernatural thriller that doesn't have to rely on a bunch of guts and blood being splashed across the screen to send its message to the viewer.

This movie has always been a favorite of mine. It is very well made, and scary as hell! If you're looking for a movie that's not just gorey, but just plain creepy, this is it. It also has one of those great endings that leaves you on the edge of your seat.
