Pros: Uses SD card, 4 AA batteries, most Pentax K lenses work with it, shake reduction,

Cons: With so many features it can be intimidating at first

This is one good camera with all the right ingredients, at a good price for someones first digital SLR. Pentax's choice of a SD card is good as these are available cheap and with good capacity. The thought that some camera manufacturers are movin...g to use a special batteries is scary, the k100d uses very available AA batteries. The shake reduction works well as does the general camera layout, and isn't it nice that most older Pentax lenses work with it. I moved up to the Pentax K100d from a 3 mp point and shoot digital camera that I thought gave good service. After looking at the first 40 photos I took with the new camera I was amazed at the quality and realized what I had been missing with the old camera, and that was before I read the instruction book. Great camera, right features, right price for entry level DSLR. It will probably become an icon in the camera world. Happy photos amigos! Read more Less

    Best of the bunch

Pros: AA batteries, Shake reduction, diopter range, 11 pt AF.

    Cons: None

You have to excuse the many reviewers that can't resist using the words "entry level". I think it irks them that Pentax has pulled off something remarkable here. It leaves the Canon Rebel and the Nikon D40 in the dust (uses the same CCD... as the D40), and speaking of dust, the shake reduction system aids in removing dust periodically. A pro feature. The K100D has a rather unique, undocumented feature: fantastic infra red sensitivity not seen in many digital cameras these days. A deal sealer for me, the camera uses AA batteries. This sets it alone, as the only camera that can use a battery available at any convenience store in a pinch. Rechargeable NMH batteries provide up to 400 shots. Plenty, and spares are easy to carry. I bought a Transcend 150x 4 Gig SD card and will store over 800 RAW pics or about 1500 high quality 6 MP images. The K100D allows you to use older Pentax lenses and still take advantage of the shake reduction technology. Kudos for allowing us to use great lenses from years gone by. The Nikon D40 requires you to commit to new lenses. A ridiculous notion, especially for overpriced glass. I had previously used Nikon 35mm before P&S. Pentax invented the SLR, and I think this model sets it apart from other DSLR's. A pro camera that pros will sneak into their bags. Read more Less
