Daughter of Mexican actress Susana Dosamantes (born Susana Rue Riestra), Latin pop sensation Paulina Rubio debuted in 1982 while singing and dancing for a very young audience as member of a popular children's outfit called Timbiriche. Her acting career began in 1988 with Pasión y Poder ("Passion and Power"); followed by +Vaselina, the Spanish-language version of the musical +Grease; and the TV series Baila Conmigo ("Dance With Me").
In 1992, Paulina Rubio decided to go on her own. La Chica Dorada ("The Golden Girl") became her solo debut album. On the other side, the movie Bésame en la Boca and the soap opera Pobre Niña Rica established her as one of the most popular artists in her native country.
After releasing the top-selling Paulina, a single called "Sexual Lover" anticipated her first English-language record, titled Border Girl.
