Paul Robeson

Paul Robeson
Paul Robeson's commanding voice was capable of many wonders -- he powerfully sang spirituals and acted in Shakespearean plays and numerous movies (including Emperor Jones in 1933 and King Solomon's Mines in 1937). Robeson recorded for Victor in 1925, the same year he began collaborating with pianist Lawrence Brown, and his immortal "Ol' Man River" was immensely popular in 1928. As the decades passed, Robeson proved an eloquent spokesman for equality and freedom.
