Pros: funny movie
Cons: nothing bad about it
i seen this movie and i must say it will leave ya laughin
One of the most good histories about the mean of life
Academy award and Golden Globe nominations aren't handed out just for the fun of it. I think that the negative viewers of this film either didn't see the film or have no taste.
According to Patch Adams himself, the movie wasn't entirely accurate. But despite that fact, I found this movie to be one of the most inspirational and funny movies I've ever seen.
My parents loved this film at the cinema and reccomended it to me, which resulted in me staying away from it for as long as humanly possible. Not that I needed much encouragement. When it comes to Hollywood dishing up cynical mush about individuals overcoming the odds that always seem to appeal mostly to sheep and nine times out of ten stars Robin "just shoot me" Williams, I have to say im pretty fearful. Eventualy when the rental price reached 50 cents I caved in and got the thing out. I didnt watch it in the end, but a good friend did, and said it was absolutely lovely. Better than "Cuckoo's Nest" he said. Robin Williams is "so funny" he said, and he thought the film was "thought provoking" and "genuinely upsetting". After I had finished dismembering his body and putting it all in a gym bag, I dropped off the video at the store, and dropped my friend off at the tip. "Now thats reality" I said to myself grimly.
Very loosely based on a true story, this film is as one-dimensional as it gets, with every scene trying to tear-jerk you but you'll probably end up feeling jerked around. Falls into almost every possible cliche convention. Go see "Good Morning, Vietnam", a better, original version of this. The true story of Hunter Adams might be worth looking into.
Very, very cheesy film. It goes for lots of
sentimentality, one scene after another, relentlessly and
shamelessly. As one critic put it, it goes for the sentiment
without really earning it. First off, we have seen Robin
Williams in this role many, many times. He is the
non-conformist fighting the institution with strange, new
practices. He is a very likable actor, although I personally
don't find his stand-up comedy all that funny
(unfortunately, the film relies on it for laughs). Even then
though, you probably saw most of the jokes in the
trailer, they are few and not very hilarious.
The
bad guys are evil, the good guys are sweeter than
candy, no character really unfolds all that well. There
were time when I liked it, but too many times when I
was squirming, wanting to tell the director "Who do
you think you're fooling?!?"
The true story
behind it all is definately worth looking into and is
really the only interesting or original thing about this
movie.
Patch Adams is a great story of helping other people who dont have money.
For all of you Robin Williams fans out there, this is a must see. I've seen the bad reviews that were given to the movie. My feelings are that if you like Robin Williams than you'll like the movie.
Elsewise, I would have given none. I disagree
that Monica Potter's acting gives a one star. Williams
craps it up too badly for even one star.
I
sincerely thought I would like this movie. I was so wrong.
I can't believe people still turn out in droves to see Robin Williams giggling at his own unfunny jokes and drooling all over himself like some sort of walrus. Let me tell you, it really "warmed my heart" to see him cheering up bald, cancer-ridden kids by putting a rubber enema bulb on his nose. Message to Mr. Williams: NO MORE MOVIES CONTAINING INSINCERE EMOTING! I, for one, can't take it anymore. (By the way, I willed myself to give this pile of stinking garbage one star as a nod to the mostly sweet performance of Monica Potter. But even that was marred by the preposterously overacted scene in which she tearfully "confesses" to Patch about having been molested as a child. AAAARRRRGHH!)
A movie full of emotions and morality.
With
excellent performances by Robin Williams and Monica Potter,
one gets involved in the greatest story of all
times.
I never seen Monica so powerful and intense. Robin
definitely presents his softness and greatness to give the
audience an unforgetable movie.
i wish all docters was like that and would not be so out of control and let every thing just fly by and have a good time then i know that all kids would not be afraid to go to the docter,
