    A Good Choice

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 19, 2006 | 7 out of 7 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01K review helpful

Pros: Nice screen, nice pictures, nice and fast UI

    Cons: Weak flash

This camera is mostly a fantastic purchase. However, it suffers from noise at high ISO levels, so if you disable the flash go ISO 200 and keep the camera steady. The pictures are bright and colourful. The user interface is fast, easy to navigate and... has sensible shortcuts for commonly used features. It also has a great collection of presets that let you pull of more interesting pictures without the need to buy an SLR. 30fps is good quality, with surprisingly good audio too. Minor niggles include the fact the viewfinder screen protrudes from the camera, so when you rest it on a surface, you are resting it on the screen. Most cameras have a bevel around the screen. The anti-shake technology also ruins pictures and is on by default. Turn it off immediately! It is also very easy to turn on by accident when it's in your pocket. Suddenly you can have a massive bulge in your pocket next to your crotch. Most embarrassing! Overall absolutely recommended, one of the best purchases I've made ever. Read more Less

    Excellent Ultra Compact Digital Camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 16, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01K review helpful

Pros: Lecia lens, 28mm equi., small but well built, excellent bright light video and picture

Cons: no zoom while taking video, picture a bit noisy

I have done plenty of research before deciding on this little beauty. At the end, it came down to Canon SD700 and Panasonic FX01. They have very similar form factor and feature sets are close. The 28mm equivalent (for 35mm film) and ~$100 saving m...akes it hard to beat. My only recommendation for FX11 or FX02 (it went from FX9 to FX01, go figure) is to (1) improve the processor on noise condition (especially low light), (2) pump up optical zoom to about 5x, and (3) even less shutter lag. All in all, buy it and you will love it. Read more Less

    Excellent camera for the price!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 31, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01K review helpful

Pros: 28mm wide-angle Leica lens, optical image stabilizer, fast start-up, large high-resolution screen

Cons: No viewfinder, fewer manual controls than some cameras (read: Canon)

I've had this camera for a few weeks now and have already taken about 150 pictures (which is, sadly, quite a bit fewer than I usually would take). Its an excellent camera for basic users looking for a compact camera for any situation, or for the... more advanced user looking for a smaller camera to compliment an ultra-zoom or DSLR. The 28mm wide-angle lens - Leica, no less - is an excellent feature for shooting scenic or indoor pictures, or pictures of large groups of people. Add in the optical image stabilizer (OIS), which helps remove the blur from your images when shooting in darker situations, and you've got an amazing little camera. I wish it had at least an optical viewfinder, but the 2.5" screen does an excellent job of making up for it by having both one of the highest resolutions available and also a "Power LCD" function with brightens the screen up considerably in bright situations (where the LCD is often difficult to see). This last function I tested a few days ago (these blistering hot, sunny days have some use, it seems) and it worked extremely well. As a whole, if you're looking for an extremely handy compact camera to have around without the $400 price tag, this is the one to get!!! Read more Less

    Image is too noisy

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01K review helpful

    Pros: size, lens and features

    Cons: poor light sensitivity

This camera takes very good pictures at smaller sizes but night shots or low-light scenes are pictured poorly, with a lot of noise. Hi-res pictures tend to be blurry so I usually end up shrinking them for noise and sharpness issues. But in general, I...'d say the camera is OK. Read more Less

    This camera can't be beat

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 14, 2007

Pros: W.A. shooting capability, great macro mode, easy to use features, small but powerful, great picture quality

Cons: noise with high ISO setting

I have taken several hundred pictures with this camera and I have had it for a little over a week now and I am so surprised at how well it does. I worked in a consumer electronics store for three years and I have seen it all, but this little guy real...ly surprised me. The battery life is amazing (around 350 high res shots consecutively), it has it all: manual white balance, great color reproduction, 3 aspect ratios, 2 image stabilizers, great lens, durable, easy to use, and all in a small pocket sized camera. I love it! Read more Less

    LOVE MY LUMIX

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 6, 2007

Pros: WIDE ANGLE; small size; large viewing area

    Cons: Not many

I love this little camera. It goes everywhere in my pocket or purse; easy start-up; lots of good qualities. It doesn't replace my bigger camera, but that camera can't hide in my purse. It is amazing how handy it is to have a small camera on m...e at most times. Good stability; and espeically love the wide-angle capability, which is why I bought it! Read more Less

    Convenience Pocket DC

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 20, 2006

Pros: Compact, 28mm, Easy to use, Long-life Battery, Fast Responses

Cons: Too much Noise, Movie file size too much

Had been using FX7 before FX01, 28mm wide angle is very good, long-life battery is good enough for one WHOLE day going out, easy to use with one hand control (the mode wheel is good), focus speed is good, up to 1sec slow shutter control in normal mod...e is good enough for such a pocket DC and the LCD display is nice (compare with my bf's Fujifilm F30....sightly brighter and sharp) no WB control for Scene mode (feel hard to use it when the WB is not correct) The noise didn't improve from FX7, easy to see the big diff compare with my bf's F30!! FX01 is doing extremely BAD on the noise control even with iso200!! This is the WORST thing of this camera for me!! High Sensitivity Mode is most noisy, only can be accept when resized in screen (still obvious with iso1600), well i'll want to try print a iso1600 photo see if it is ok for photo prints. Movie quality is good, but file size too large.....MAX 8mins for 1gb card for the highest quality movie, so i usually can use the middle quality to take movies (320x240 - 30fps) most of the time, so seems the HIGH quality movie is useless in this case.
