    Nice Laptop, Nice Portability

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 21, 2006

    Pros: Screen Size, Power

    Cons: Price

This is an excellent laptop. Nice size screen, great
power, and good customer service. This company has
always produced a good product and is a good choice to
go with. The only problemwith this computer is the
price. At about 1000 bucks it will break your wallet.
But, I got mine for free, just copy and paste the
following link into your address bar :
    laptops.freepay.com/
    ?r=25850732 and check out the
    site. Have fun!

    Love the Toughbook W2

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 11, 2005 | 2 out of 2 found this Panasonic Toughbook W2 Laptop Computer review helpful

Pros: Lightweight and small for 12" screen; solid feel

Cons: Noisy DVD when transferring at max (movies OK)

I tried a Dell Inspiron 700m, Sharp Actius MP30, and Averatec 3200, in my search for the lightest and best. The Sharp and W2 are the same weight, but the Sharp has only a 10 inch screen and a slightly smaller keyboard. The overall size difference is only a half inch in any direction. For approx. $350 more (after adding memory to the W2), you get a much better machine. On the other hand, the Sharp and Dell come with much more included software, and XP is already updated with SP2. The Dell is fully 50% heavier with the extended life battery (still lower life than the W2). Otherwise, the Dell is a great machine and, on any given discount day, $800 cheaper. The Averatec feels like junk, and has only a 2 hour battery.
The W2 is working great. My only complaint in operation is that I still haven't figured out how to use the Intel Pro wireless controls rather than using Windows to control the wireless.
Note also that memory can now be upgraded to 1 gb. It just took some time for manufacturers to come out with 768 MB micro-dimms to fit.

Light, strong, high quality of "made in Japan"

When I bought it, I felt the box did not contain the laptop (many W2 user said same thing)

I bought this laptop from Japan. Got extra RAM (total 512MB) and was around $1850.

Panasonic laptops are very well made. W2 is one of the best hit among all the Japanese portable laptos in year 2003, and will continue to be the best hit in 2004. I was glad that I did not choose VaioTR, which was very cute though..
If you can read Japanese, look this review. This is ture, except that I think W2 has very crisp display as well.

If you already have a powerful desktop or laptop and need second machine that can be easily carried around with you everyday anywhere, I would highly recommend this machine. Business user? No problem.

If you lower the display brightness to the lowest (which is actually enough to do most basic tasks), and just use wireless internet every 5 minutes or just use MS Word to type some notes, I am sure you do not need to carry around adapter for one day. I just charge my W2 at night when I get home, and never carry addapter. I use W2 a lot, average 4-6 hours per day, and still 20% battery left by the end of the day. Simply amazing.

Y2 is actually very impressive machine as well.
I would like to purchase one, but I am happy with W2 and have PowerBook G4.
