Advanced system and chipset architecture gives the Toughbook W2 unparalleled performance in executing instruction sets, transitioning between operations and responding to component power demands.

The W2 employs the latest iteration of the revolutionary thin-glass display technology, a 12.1-inch XGA TFT active-matrix LCD almost 25 percent lighter than same-size conventional panels. The thin-glass display's compact light path and low-power, high-output backlight result in a class-leading brightness/battery drain ratio.

Durability is a primary consideration in the engineering of every Toughbook regardless of form factor and feature set. Hard drive and LCD shock-absorbers, reinforced screen case edges, stainless steel hinges and a bonded scuff-and-scratch-resistant outer coating round out the ruggedization package.

    When I bought it, I felt the box did not contain the laptop (many W2 user said same thing)I bought this laptop from Japan. Got extra RAM (total 512MB) and was around $1850. Panasonic laptops are very well made. W2 is one of the best hit among all t...he Japanese portable laptos in year 2003, and will continue to be the best hit in 2004. I was glad that I did not choose VaioTR, which was very cute though..If you can read Japanese, look this review. This is ture, except that I think W2 has very crisp display as well.http:/

    646582-000.htmlIf you already have a powerful desktop or laptop and need second machine that can be easily carried around with you everyday anywhere, I would highly recommend this machine. Business user? No problem. If you lower the display brightness to the lowest (which is actually enough to do most basic tasks), and just use wireless internet every 5 minutes or just use MS Word to type some notes, I am sure you do not need to carry around adapter for one day. I just charge my W2 at night when I get home, and never carry addapter. I use W2 a lot, average 4-6 hours per day, and still 20% battery left by the end of the day. Simply amazing.Y2 is actually very impressive machine as well. I would like to purchase one, but I am happy with W2 and have PowerBook G4.     Read more Less

    Pros: Nice flat design, portable

    Cons: A bit too expensive

    The panasonic thoughbook is an awesome laptop. You have to get this one. It is a little expensive but remember you get what you pay for. If i could descibe it in one word "amazing".

    This ultraportable has features designed to handle rough-and-tumble treatment.We didn't torture-test the Toughbook W2's shock-mounted hard drive or magnesium-alloy case with 3-foot drops or other ordeals a notebook designed for rough use might face. But this 2.9-pound ruggedized notebook impressed us with its impervious look and feel. Big, shock-absorbing ridges on the lid are designed to protect the notebook during rough use. You can toss the compact Toughbook into your luggage or vehicle and it won't take up much room. It's thick (1.8 inches) at the hinges where the battery is, but only 1.2 inches in front. At 10.6 inches wide by 8.3 inches deep, its footprint is about the size of a sheet of typing paper. Centrino Wi-Fi networking comes built-in. Read more

    Panasonic Toughbook W2

    The W2 is one of those rare head turners. No one in the States has probably seen one, and it looks different from everything else on the market. The combo drive loading mechanism is one of a kind, and, provided you dont end up turning the unit off when youre trying to show it off, makes for a nice feature demo in a coffee shop. The anime styling borders on fun and tacky, but thats one of the reasons we liked it. No other laptop out now has that fun feeling that the W2 does. While it may not be business appropriate, the W2 is an all around great second computer to have if you need the ultimate in portability and performance.The W2 is one of those rare head turners.
