Pros: Great color, sharp pictures, compact, has a joystick

Cons: joystick takes some getting use to

The camera is great but it does not fit my hand as well as a sony because of the design of the strap.Backlight control should be a button on the camera like sony. You have to go to a menu and then fiddle around with the joystick to get to the backlig...ht control. Takes time to do and sometimes do not have the time. The color is great in fact the color is better than reality.Camera has a rewind control that is great and better than sony. Just flick the joystick and the tape rewinds to where you want it.The joystick takes some getting use to but I like it over the touch screen Sony uses.It is much faster to use once you know how to use it.Great camera for the price. Panasonic PV-GS300

This step down from the PV-GS500 has three CCD sensors, and offers serious shooters a lot of features.Panasonic's PV-GS300 is less expensive than two other camcorders we recently tested that have three CCD sensors. The PV-GS300 (priced at $700 as of 5/2/06) delivered impressive video quality in our tests. It's a little bulkier than some other models, at 5.3 inches long and just under 3 pounds, though it fits comfortably in the hand; the heavier components on the left side of its body mean that it will sometimes tilt to the left while you're filming. Though the record and zoom buttons are comfortable, the mode dial and joystick are a little awkward; you have to use your other hand to brace the camcorder before you can comfortably reach them.
