After having my 5.8 GHz Panasonic phone's battery die after less than 10 months of use, I read this forum. Before replacing the batteries on the three phones, I called Panasonic and told them my problem and also told them about all the negative reviews found here. As all my phones were less than a year old, they agreed to send me three new batteries. I only needed to fax them my invoices re original purchases. The batteries they sent are Panasonic HHR-P402PED. They were free and are 3.6V 1000mAH
NI-MH. If you have your original paperwork, give Panasonic a chance as opposed to replacing batteries at your own expense.
Pros: none
Cons: short battery life, "memory effect"
I have found several replacement options, such as the ER-P511 and the ENEERP511 - there are multiple options for NiMH replacements for the original P-P511 "type 24" battery that came with your phone. NiMH batteries of 1200 mAh can be obtained for about $10 plus shipping from several sources, just search the web for P-P511 or the model # of your phone. ...
Pros: NONE
Cons: ABSOLUTE POS
WOW! I can't believe all these bad reviews, thought I had just gotten stuck with a lemmon. I bought this piece of junk when it had first came out about 3 years ago. It worked fine for about 6 months actually. Then before the one year warranty ran out, I took it in for repair and according to the repair report that I got back, the battery wasn't the issue. They changed some other parts. Then it worked for about another 3-4 months before it started losing charge again. I don't honestly think it's a battery issue. I think their phones are defective. This piece of junk wasn't cheap either, I paid about $160 for it. I just haven't really pressed the issue with Panasonic much because I almost never use my home phone. I read some reports about different types of batteries. Have any of them worked? If so, I'd appreciate if you could email me the name of the battery to bonecutter09@yahoo.com
Pros: No
Cons: Many
I have 2.4G expandable system and the handset can only last 5 minutes. I purchase new original rep-lacement and every time it last 2 months. Now I will go for non- Panasonic brand. No Panasonic phone in my home and office any more after this generation gone.
Pros: Same as other reviews
Cons: Same as other reviews
I am very relieved to find these reviews. My KX-TG5100 was NOT a cheap phone, and I was shocked by the short battery life. I thought I had been taken on this phone until I read the reviews. Panasonic should recall ALL their phones that take the P-P511, or extend the courtesy of replacing the battery with a better product. As all the other people who were "taken" on this phone, I too had to purchase the ENERGIZER replacement battery. SHAME ON YOU, PANASONIC.
Pros: YGBSM
Cons: I have cheap capacitors that hold a charge longer!
I bought a Panasonic phone set with two extra handsets. The answering machine part works great. The batteries went south very quickly. I complained to Panasonic, and after going through three levels of "help", they sent me some new batteries, which went south just as quickly. Have converted to the Evereadys.
Pros: ZERO!
Cons: Very Short Life Expectancy!
this Battery Is FUBAR!... total watse of money... battery doesn't hold charge... you have to keep your phone on the charger at all times just to talk for five minutes of air time... generic batteries are better... for replacement go with the Energizer ER-P511 Battery NIMH 3.6v 1200 mAH
Pros: light enough to be thrown really far
Cons: no talk time...none
ok so i have been a lifetime panasonic phone user and have always loved them. THAT WAS until THESE phones came along. i bought aexpandable phone system and 2 base units (3 cordless phones) and immediately had problems. unfortunately i was too busy to bring the phones back immediately so I had to deal with panasonic directly. i told tehm of my situation and they informed me taht id have to send all of teh units in (AT MY COST) and tehy would replace the entire phone.
ok so now not only am i out of almost 300$, i will not have a phone plus i will ahve to pay to ship them out. i asked if i could just ship the batteries and they said no, id have to ship teh entire phone. i talked to 4 levels of managers and nothing. cutomer care was a joke too. iwaited 45 minutes for help and was told the same thing...tough crap...
i will never buy another panasonic phone again. customer care was horrible. lord knows waht would happen if it were an expensive problem. STAY AWAY FROM PANASONI
Pros: Zero
Cons: Where do I begin?
You can charge this battery uninterupted all night long and will be lucky to get a 10 minute conversation on the charge. The worst I have EVER seen!
Pros: None
Cons: Will not last even if fully charged over night.
I have read the reviews regarding the Panasonic P-P511 and I would have to agree with them.
I purchased two different Panasonic phone systems one with a fax and one with out. They both have the same exact handset and battery. When I started to notice the lack in talk time, I called Panasonic and was told, oh uh you left it on the charger for toooooooooo long. You need to charge it then uh leave it off the charger like during the day. I thought to myself is this person joking. I have never had to do that before with any cordless phone.
I will definitely look into purchasing a third party battery replacement for the handsets. I mean at first I thought maybe Panasonic was including a really crappie version of the battery in the phones so you would have to buy a new one soon kind of like what home printer companies do with their trial version ink cartridges.
Pros: None
Cons: Short life, even Panasonic knows it. Warranty doesn't cover it.
The battery in both of my Panasonic phone won't last a year. They died in 15 min of use. Panasonic knows about this problem, however, their warranty doesn't cover battery.
Pros: none
Cons: junk
These batteries don't last long enough to call Panasonic to complain. Have 6 of these phones and though handy phones, none of them has a battery that is worthy of ownership. I changed several of these batteries out replacing them with interstate batter number Tel0305 which has not proven to be satisfactory either. Guess I'll try the energizer too.
Pros: Stimulate the economy by buying more batteries
Cons: Battery lasts for 5 minutes
When I bought my Panasonic phones they lasted for 5-6 days without a charge. Now they won't last for more than 5 minutes.
Long story short: NiCd batteries suck. Go with a NiMH such as Energizer ER-P511 NIMH 1200 mAh. I bought two on eBay for $9.99 each plus $4.00 shipping. For $25 I now have two good batteries.
Pros: None
Cons: Absolute rubbish.
I bought 8 phones with these batteries. Withing a few months they started to die. It's been about a year now, and the only phone that still works for more than 3 or 4 minutes is the one where I substituted an Energiser ER-P511. Panasonic should have been forced to recall these batteries... they are an absolute rip-off!!!
Pros: None
Cons: See other reviews
Completely useless batter. What good is a nice phone system if the battery life is 5 minutes? What a scam. Panasonic won't even admit that their battery is useless. I won't by another Panasonic phone system, that's for sure.
Pros: None
Cons: Dies in no time
I am indeed surprised how many souls like me have been affected by the poor quality of this battery. It is emabarrassing to get disconnected on important calls due to this battery's inability to hold charge.
I read somewhat bad reviews on the Energizer battery 511 as well. I think the person was really talking about the Panasonic version of the battery.
Can someone please advise on the best replacement for this battery? And share their experiences with the NiMH batteries?
Sincere thanks.
Pros: wanted 5.8 system
Cons: bad product
panasonic shoud replqace these.
i have kxt-tg5110 seven phones system , all cant be used.tried replacing batteries they all went bad after one week.
Pros: none
Cons: no life
I like everyone else experienced problems with these NI-CD batteries. I would have solved the problem sooner if the batteries were actually labeled as NI-CD as I am familiar with the memory recharge problems. It just didn't occur to me that new products would come with this bad battery technology. A call to Panasonic help desk left me with no help. Their advice, "Make sure you recharge the batteries." Too bad, cause the Panasonic phone system is pretty slick.
Pros: None
Cons: Cons are the same as others already addressed

Pros: none
Cons: life
Worst product life ever
Pros: absolutely none!
Cons: short life
There is no excuse on the part of Panasonic for using this battery in 2004. I have several of the 5.8 GHz phones and I have had to replace batteries now after only a few hours of use. These batteries will not last if used for short or brief phone calls then placed back in the charger. They rapidly develop a "memory" which shortens their life to a few minutes or less in a very brief period of use (over 2-3 months).
I found these batteries to be very expensive as well: $27.00 at Best Buy for example. I am going to replace failed P-P511 from Panasonic with ER-P511 from Everyready.
Pros: None
Cons: Everything
I agree with everything written about this POS battery. I'm going to replace with a new one. From Ebay, I have found the following replacements:
Energizer ER-P511 1200 mAH
Powertron 1800mAH
Both of these are Ni MH technology as opposed to the Ni-CD technology of the original Panasonic POS, which is also a 850 mAH
If anyone has used either of these batteries, could you let me know if they are any good by emailing me at dukeluke12@yahoo.com
