    Killer great camera!

By JimA  May 23, 2006 | 17 out of 19 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

    Pros: Zoom is fantistac

Cons: Battery life about an hour total time

All cameras are going to take time to learn to use if you want any of the features. This one is so easy if you just point and shoot. The zoom might be the best of any camera under $400. And the image stabelization keeps bluring pix a thing of the pas...t. I think this camera is the best going in this price range Read more Less

    Light Fast Megazoom

By Waldguy  Nov 27, 2006 | 10 out of 11 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

Pros: Image stabilization, weight, zoom, big LCD, settings, flash power

Cons: image noise at higher ISO's

In the five months I've owned this camera I have been very pleased. It has amazingly fast autofocus for a big zoom and quick startup time, though unfortunately it doesn't remember all your last settings when it powers down. It's light to ...wear around your neck. The focus snaps in real fast compared to other digicams I've used. The manual focus on the joystick works OK, but obviously a ring on the lens would be the best. The flash lights up indoor shots wonderfully. The main downside is the noise on the image when you get to ISO's over 200. Battery life is good to great. I used a regular Sandisk card and on sequential shooting will store the shots without maxing out the buffer. The widescreen video is absolutely amazing, and the 30fps rivals my vidcam, only you can't zoom while you video. The optical image stabilization has saved many shots for me. The lens hood and option to add filters from with the adapter in the box is also a plus. The PDF manual could be a little clearer when it comes to using the in depth features, but it's still informative. In my experience, it's a great "prosumer" camera for the price. Read more Less

    Super, better than my fz5

By TerryD  May 2, 2006 | 7 out of 7 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

    Pros: Manual Focus

    Cons: Battery expensive

I had a fz5 and was very pleased, but this fz7 gave me everything I had plus manual focus, longer battery life, larger lcd, a better lrns hood and adapter, and a bit larger grip for my large hands. Once you get use to the controls and menus it is ver...y pleasent to work with and yes I've had a few pictures I was disappointed in but the mass majority of them have been the best I've ever taken, and the manual focus was a god send on some setups. Super pleased, especially at $329.00 from Circuit City. Read more Less

    Re: Zoom

By Leonie  Dec 7, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

Pros: easy to use, battery life, quality of pictures, features

Cons: having trouble finding a bag that will fit both camera & lens hoods without being too big

I would just like to respond to the review by wishingonstars4life, who stated that the zoom was awfully blurry. I've used it a lot to take photos of the Aussie wildlife I'm encountering and have had no trouble whatsoever. I've taken photo...s of kangaroos that were so far away I maxed out the zoom, and the shots were still crisp. I've also taken photos of little bugs with zoom, and they came out just perfect too. You might have been unlucky and have had a dodgy camera. My boyfriend and I both own one of these, and neither of us is having any problems with the zoom, or the camera. It takes beautiful photos and is easy to use. Read more Less

    Fabulous Camera!

By Claire S  Jul 21, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

Pros: Great pix, 12Xzoom, long battery life

    Cons: None

This is the 3rd digital camera I've owned, and it is by far the best. The controls are easy to use, the zoom is about the best you'll find on a camera this price, and it takes fabulous pictures. Also, the battery life is great. I recently too...k this on a trip to Italy, snapping photos constantly, and the battery would last two days before it needed to be recharged. I am very pleased with this camera and would buy it again. Read more Less

Sharp and professional shots by a doofus

By Karen H  May 26, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

Pros: size, a ton of features, great manual, great auto features

    Cons: none so far

I've taken this camera up and down the west coast and shot well over 500 pics----excellent camera. I'm learning how to use all of the features, as I'm completely new to this, but using the auto features has helped tremendously right off t...he bat. I did a ton of research and couldn't be happier...:) Read more Less

    Great value for money

    By P  Oct 21, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

Pros: Great lens, zoom range, lightweight but solid build, plenty features

Cons: Image noise at high ISO, shutter lag

Under good lighting conditions, this camera is a first rate performer. It packs enough features to match an entry level SLR, and the Leica lens delivers very crisp images. The size, weight and custom features mean it can be used as a basic P&S when i...n a rush, though more serious enthusiasts have plenty to play with. The controls are intuitive and easy to figure out. It gets a lot trickier to get the camera to perform under low light conditions. The problem is, image noise gets unacceptably high beyond ISO 100. It's partly compensated by the wide apertures (f/2.8 - f/3.3, depending on focal length) the camera allows and the fantastic image stabilizer function. You could shoot at 1/5 sec without tripod and have a fair chance at avoiding detectable camera shake. Still, auto-focus functioning gets spotty as the light weakens and eventually, the ISO constraint becomes rather limiting. Shooting quick action is also tricky due to some shutter lag. Use the burst mode and shoot lots if you have to. Overall, this is excellent value for the money especially for those aiming to sink their teeth into digital photography, and also for more experienced SLR users who want a lightweight but well featured second camera for quick grabs. If you want something for really serious shooting, spend the extra bucks and get an SLR. If you just want the birthday and vacation pics without much fuss, simplify and get a pocket P&S. Panasonic DMC-FZ7 Black

By Calin  Jan 21, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7K review helpful

    Pros: Zoom, image quality

    Cons: Size, weight

I own this camera for about a year now. No problems whatsoever. Made thousands of photos, filmed hours of videos. Battery life is enough to take this camera with you on a trip and not worry about shooting everything you see. Great value then (2006) a...nd greater value now (2007). I would recommend this model to all people that want a solid, easy-to-use yet versatile camera. I'm not a big fan on Panasonic. I previously owned a FujiFilm but since the SD format evolved so much the coice is clear: DMC-FZ7. Read more Less
