    Lumix FZ5 - I think it's a great camera!

By Michael L  Aug 10, 2005 | 9 out of 10 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5K review helpful

Pros: Picture quality, light weight and easy to use

    Cons: I can't find any

I used Canon, Sony and Nikon point and shoot cameras, and none of them can produce pictures like the FZ5. Actually you can’t go wrong with any Panasonic camera that has a Leica lens. The picture quality is great (screen and print). The only kind of ...camera that comes close in my opini0oon would be an SLR camera. Read more Less

    First Digitel Camera

By Antoine  Jun 30, 2005 | 6 out of 6 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5K review helpful

    Pros: Excellent Cameras

Cons: No Cons, on this one!

This is the first Digitel Camera, That I owned. The camera is light, and easy to use. Takes excellent pictures, very sharp, like a pro, would take it. I took about 100 picutres, and took to Costco's to devlop, and they came crisp clear, the colar... is excellent. The setup, is so easy, user friendly. This product excellent item, and reasonable priced too. Best resualts, of use Sandisk Ultra II memory. I curently have 1 gig Ultra II's. Read more Less

Can't beat this camera for the money!

By Benwa  Nov 8, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5K review helpful

Pros: Image stabilizer, takes incredible video

    Cons: None

This is the best camera I have ever had. I have had a Nikon, an Olympus, a Canon, and an earlier Panasonic. This Panasonic covers everything an enthusiast would want. It takes great pics, has nice zoom, image stabilizer, nice features on the camer...a, can set manual or auto, and the videos are immaculate. Get a nice sized memory card because you will go through faster than you think. I shopped around for months before I decided on this camera. Save yourself the trouble and get one. Read more Less

    Review of Panasonic DMC FZ5

By JackP  Jul 14, 2005 | 1 out of 2 found this Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5K review helpful

    Pros: Light, easy to use.

Cons: Pictures are sometimes disappointing. LCD Screen is very hard to use in bright sunlight.

Overall I am disappointed in the camera. I tried to use it at an AAU track meet in San Antonio in July 05. I could not see the subject in the LCD viewfinder well enough to take the pictures. I wish the eye viewer was optical rather than digital for s...ituations like this. The pictures are OK but not really as good as I hoped. I found the camera easy to use overall. Read more Less

    Overall great camera

    By Tuomas  Oct 16, 2008

Pros: size, weight, excellent zoom, good EVF, decent battery life, excellent lens

Cons: noise at higher ISOs, no manual focus

Overall I think this is a great little camera. No doubt, now replaced by newer and better models, but the FZ-5 still produces great shots and is highly versatile. The greatest strengths in my opinion are the great zoom range (12x (36-432mm)) and exce...llent build quality. The lens (Leica, superb quality) extends out of the body enabling a firm grip. The EVF is also very usable allowing steady shooting and showing a lot of information. Indeed, I have got to being so used to it, I find it hard to use cameras that lack an OVF/EVF. On the negative side, the pictures tend to be quite noisy in dark conditions and on higher ISOs. The camera lacks manual focus, which is however only a minor disadvantage in my opinion. The controls are relatively easy, although the adjustment of aperture and shutter time could be more easy. I would recommend this, and especially the newer models like FZ-8, to people who want a good and smallish all-around camera. Bigger than many compacts, it offers a wide array of features. It is especially good for nature/bird photographing. Read more Less

    FZ5

Pros: sharp lens, best image stabilizer in its class

Cons: noise increase from ISO 200 onwards

able to capture nice shots in good light. image stabilizer helps to achieve sharp shots while on tour. problem is the same cannot be said for night shots. high speed 3 point/1 point focusing enables fast focus in an instant. great battery life. wish ...that the viewfinder could be in center position instead of towards the left of the camera body. You can't get better for the money.

    By malky  Jan 31, 2007

Pros: As fast as an SLR with good images.

Cons: Limited ISO and it isn't an SLR

It has many features found on more expensive cameras and really easy to use point and shoot mechanics. Using manual settings are a pain however as it means going through menus a lot. There is no manual focus either. You can get around this usually by... the usual focus first then shoot. This is basically a leica for less money. The fz7 that is it's sucessor is basically the same with a few extras you could miss. The fz7 has noise in the shots so the added megapixels aren't so useful. I'd recommend this as you can get it cheap as it has been replaced. Avoid the new fz5, it is not the same camera. Read more Less

    Good little camera

    By charlesc  Dec 10, 2006

    Pros: great zoom lens

    Cons: shuter lag, body feel

I used a FZ5 for about eight months (it was my second digital camera, I moved up to a Nikon d50). I enjoyed this little camera. The lens, with its 12x zoom, is its strongest suit. Image quality was good (and, were it not for looking at my d50 images ...for the last six months, I might have said great...). Its small size, and rather cheap plastic body, are minuses. Th overall experience, for me, was a big plus. If you aren't sure if you are ready for a dSLR (or the cost of one), this camera, or one if it's newer FZ siblings, might be for you... Read more Less

    Great camera, great value

    By Derek  May 2, 2006

Pros: Takes quick pictures, very fun to play with

Cons: no external flash option, hard to focus in low light

This is my first digital camera. I have taken some great photos with it. I like the anti-shake lense capabilities. Great for my first in the digital camera world.
