Simply press a button and One-Touch-Way Copying lets you transfer material from VHS tapes to DVD discs and vice versa. This means you can easily record your entire video library onto DVD for a collection that takes up much less space. During tape-to-DVD copying, there's also a handy function that reads recording start (VISS) signals on a tape and automatically creates thumbnails on the DVD discs.
The Accutune Digital Tuner is a high performance hybrid tuner capable of receiving both digital and analog broadcasts. It uses a signal processor to effectively control noise and distortion, and its proprietary matching circuits allow it to transform and separate digital or analog signals. When digital broadcast signals drop out, generally the picture either disappears or becomes filled with block-noise, but the Accutune Digital Tuner produces a beautiful picture even under difficult reception conditions, such as when there are obstacles interfering with direct signal access.
With twice the horizontal resolution (500 lines vs. the 250-line standard of many other DVD recorders) when recording in LP mode, you can fit up to four hours of recordings on one DVD (4.7GB capacity) and still enjoy crisp, vibrant and exceptionally detailed images. 1080p up-conversion with HDMI converts video images to 1080p digital resolution for sharp, high-impact images.
Incredibly versatile and multi-format-friendly, you can record to and play back just about any DVD, including DVD-R/-RW/-RAM/+R/+RW discs, as well as DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R (dual layer), DVD+R (dual layer), CD, CD-DA and CD-R/RW (including MP3 files). With a Panasonic DVD recorder, never think twice about what disc you need.
Panasonic DVD recorders are equipped with a high-precision progressive video processor that handles 30-frame progressive scan images1 on NTSC discs. This lets you enjoy high-resolution progressive playback of original DVD images.

Cons: The operating instructions
Have had the recorder less than a week. I set the speed to six hours then tried to copy a tape to dvd and after 2 hours it cut off. May I did something wrong.
Trying to read the operating instruction is like trying to go through a maze. In the first sentence it tells you to go to page 13 then 14 to 17. On that same page there are references to 4 other pages and that is the way it is in rest of the book.
The salesman at Circuit City told me you could record to tape, to disk and to memory. If it has any memory I can't find it.
I set it up two ways to my Sony 1080p. The one way gives me a 480p and the other way (with a $100 cable)gives me a 1080p picture. The only difference I can see (playing a store bought movie)is that with the 1080p I can not view the picture in normal mode. It widens picture to full screen making the people look fat.
If I had it to do over I would not have bought a combo. ...

I had had my DMR-EZ47VK for several months now and love it. It was very simple to operate. I transferred all my old VHS home movies to DVD in a few hours. I also made DVD copies of several old laserdisc movies. The operating manual was very easy to follow and after a few minutes I put the manual away for good.
