    Panasonic DMR-ES45VS - it's grrreat!

    By R  Aug 25, 2006 | 20 out of 20 found this Panasonic DMR-ES45VS review helpful

Pros: Picture & sound quality, features

Cons: User Manual hurt my head...

I did quite a bit of research before taking the plunge on this unit. My main need was to transfer VHS home videos and DV home videos to DVD for archival purposes. This unit delivered the goods and more. I have only had it about a week and I've bu...rned a half-dozen DVDs with no "coasters"! What's more, it has HDMI output which looks and sounds great on my Mits 50" HDTV. Digital audio out to my Yamaha Surround Sound Receiver is awesome. I like the fact that it has a variety of inputs including DV and SD card slot. The VHS tapes I've copied look excellent on DVD. I've also dubbed some stuff from my TiVo unit. Be aware that the advanced copy functions are not available if you copy to DVR-R(W). You need to use +R or RAM disks for that. All in all a great unit. I haven't had to use support services to date. Pros: Works great for about 3 months

Cons: Does not read any disks after 3 months

I orginally bought 4 of the DMR es46v Panasonic DVD/VCR recorders in May of this year to archive about 4,000 videotapes to DVD. I have had 3 of the recorders go bad. 1 in September and 2 in October. Now they cannot read any DVD. This particular model... has problems. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL. Read more Less

    Panasonic DMR-ES45VS

The Panasonic DMR-ES45 gives you the ability to enjoy older and newer media formats without taking up precious space in your home entertainment setup. You've probably got plenty of great stuff on VHS tapes, from your favorite films to home recordings. Instead of taking up room with a VCR and a DVD player, you need a single unit that plays both. That's where the DMR-ES45 comes in. Taking what worked well in previous models and improving them, it also includes features that make everyday DVD recording simpler than ever. The HDAVI-Control allows you to control multiple components without the mess of wires and remotes that you'd normally face. While enjoying your favorite VHS movies and recording to tape, you can also record & play back DVD-Audio & Video, CD audio, CD-DA and MP3/JPEG discs. You can even load up an SD card and preview your Digital photos and video on a larger screen. Read more
