Initial excitement gave into broken heart

Pros: looks, screen, clarity

Cons: keyboard moody, warranty, service, factory warranty department

I've never had a phone break my heart until now. I spent mega bucks to get this phone with everything from factory, spending the extra money for the GSM model and all accessories, then was sent a non-GSM model, and after going to several stores, they finally figured this out. Warranty department only would say to send the unit to the authorized repair center, and they sent me back a reconditioned unit (minus stylus and memory card cover) with a defective keyboard. I tried unsucessfully to operate. This was a gift for my wife to resolve separate PDA and Phone needs, now depressed, out of warranty, my only option is to repair an old, defective, reconditioned unit that I paid full factory price for, and have only a half-dozen hours of use (trying). Anyone want it? I've returned to Blackberry.

Quite handy, but won't solve everything

Cons: Limited memory, small problems with synching and time/date stamps, only MIDI ringtones

I've had the Treo 650 for Verizon for over two years now and have been very pleased with it. Even now against the current devices available it still handles most any task for a cell phone and then some.

The Palm OS means it will be instantly familiar to anyone that has used their devices in the background. It has all the normal apps to handle contacts, calendar appointments, To-Do lists, notes, etc. I particularly like the IM history feature which can store texts like an IM chat log by each contact instead of individual messages. This makes tracking text conversations much easier. You can also get a whole host of third party apps including games, PDF viewers, and even MS Office editors. The 650 also can sync with an Exchange server to get email on the go, if that's something you even use. The web browser is fairly zippy, but doesn't work on EV-DO. For multimedia users the phone has RealPlayer in ROM so you can listen to MP3 tunes on the go. You can also watch many video clips with the built in media player. The camera is limited to VGA resolution, but it can capture video as well as photos.

With all these media improvements I cant understand why the Treo shouldn't support MP3 ringtones. With RealPlayer in ROM it has the capability to play the files, why can't it be linked to the phone to play them as ringtones as well? The internal storage capacity is also rather small at just over 20 MB, but the SD card slot slightly makes up for it. Also I've had slight problems with time/date conflicts. The device doesn't register daylight savings time changes so some appointments get stored under different time zones. If you don't bother checking the time zone itself you won't have any problems. However if you're the type that travels around a lot, you may find some calendar events an hour behind or ahead. Also if you change the date format ( ie I use dd.mm.yy as opposed to the more typical American format of mm/dd/yy, ) it can lead to some problems when synching to a computer where the day and month get reversed. So long as both the phone and computer use the same format however, you shouldn't have any issues.

Overall this phone has served very well. It's survived a tough two years for me, involving more than a few drops, and though the case may be scratched a bit, nothing has ever broken. Just invest in some screen protectors to keep those annoying scratches away.

El equipo funciona bien, lo unico que me gustaria que tuviera una tecla de retorceso, pues no le permite corregir o ir al programa en el cual uno estaba trabajando. Del resto muy bueno.

TREO: Great Tool, Lousy Antenna

Pros: Powerhouse Phone

Cons: Dropped calls galore

I have been using this PDA for nearly 2 years. I would love it if I could get better reception. I fade between 2 bars and none at home (though I live in a supposedly excellently covered area) and in many key places. My wife uses a basic flip phone with the same carrier and has full bars at home.
If dropped calls are an issue for you, shop around, I would not recommend the TREO unless you must have it for other reasons. Other than that, it is a terrific business tool and is quite rugged, having survived many fumbles onto concrete.

Pros: Everything!

Cons: Camera could be better

This is the best smartphone, I've ever owned. I'm on my third one now - not because they're unreliable, but because I use it so much I wear them out cosmetically. They all still work, but I give the old ones to my family members and they love them too!

I've never had a problem with one and they are totally reliable and easy to backup/sync with my computer.

The battery life is also better than other smartphones too, including the rest of the Treo family!

I use it in conjunction with my MacBook Pro, Documents To Go and Missing Sync.

The Palm OS is also easier to use and more reliable than the Windows mobile OS.

The Most Versatile Smartphone...period.

Cons: Somewhat fragile construction.

Having owned many, many phones and many PDA's, i've simply been overwhelmed with the Treo 650. This smartphone is perfect for someone entering the smartphone world all the upto us more advanced users. There exist an extremely long line of software availabe to run everything from streaming TV/Radio, Video players, IMs, Portable Music, we browsing and all the other Office-suites and business apps.

To me, this is more like a portable computer. Hardware is excellent. Calls come in clear, the QWERTY keyboard at first might be small for larger hand people, but you get used to it, even with time, one lets go of the Stylus. Data transfers are fast (CDMA) and the speed of the Treo 650 is good.

There are tons of available hardware accessories ranging from Bluetooth peripherals to super large 8GB SD Cards. I've tried the 700 model, but i didn't think it was worth replacing yet, plus it's a tad bit bulkier than the 650, but love the keyboard design better.

On the low side, the direction cursor key is very delicate, it scratches/peels easy, and as seem on my friend' Treos, so can the screen border. This can be easily solved ket a silicone case.

All in all, it is definately worth it's price.
