Overall a nice piece of gear -- but...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 26, 2005 | 53 out of 53 found this Palm Treo 650 Smartphone review helpful

Pros: Size, useable keyboard, nice screen

Cons: A bit heavy and a sub-marginal camera...

Well... I told myself before I bought this phone that it would be great: I could finally have a phone and a full-fledged PDA in one unit. And I got what I asked for. It performs well. The keyboard, though small, is certainly well designed and useabl...e after you've mastered the alternate key button for numbers and/or symbols. At first I thought I'd miss not being able to write "grafitti style" but quickly found I didn't need it at all. The screen is sharp and clear, although just a touch on the small side. The expansion card slot is great. I put a 1-gig SD card in mine and loaded it with all my favorite Palm programs. Runs 'em all without a hitch! The camera sucks (lousy image, even at 640 X 480), but then I don't use it all that much so it's no big loss. I like the unit a lot, all things considered. If I could change anything about it, I'd cut its weight by about half and the price by about a third. I'd also find better web browsing software. Actually, browsing the web is not a big deal; If I'm going to check the web for something, I'm going to use a real computer with a real screen. The Instant Messaging and Email works well, though, and are both practical and useful applications with this phone. Read more Less

Pros: You can hear clearly when you are talking to someone

Cons: It is a little bit expensive

I think that this phone is perfect for the person who is always on the go and in the car. If you don't want to carry both your PDA and your cell phone around then this is the perfect phone for you. You can hear clearly on the other line when you ...are talking to someone. Read more Less

From 2 to one device and never looked backed

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 3, 2006 | 9 out of 11 found this Palm Treo 650 Smartphone review helpful

Pros: Integration, ease of use, quality, palm os,

    Cons: battery life, memory,

As a heavy pda and phone user, I decided to take the plunge and opt for integration. Honestly, unless you are dependent on your pda; there is no need to consider this any further. Makes life simplier having two in one; less to carry, always have my... calendar with me, no need to find wifi spot to browse the web, looks less geekier than have a phone & pda attached to your hip. However, as a heavier user for both; I quickly learned I have to charge 2x week instead 1x as in past. Also a headset is a must if you like to use both pda and phone at the same time. Finally, because I load up the programs and data; the memory is substantially less than a pda alone. But this is easily solved with a SD card to push data and infrequently used programs too. In sum; I would never turn back to having two devices again. Read more Less

Good audio speaker for the fist 3 months

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 3, 2006 | 7 out of 7 found this Palm Treo 650 Smartphone review helpful

Pros: great vivid screen, easy to follow menus, keyboard is awesome, camera is good, easy to up-sync with home computer

Cons: the memory is crappy you will need a memory card around 512mb, my port for the headphones messed up and Palm wanted to charge me $200 just to fix it ("if they could")

I have had my Treo (unlocked) running on T-mobile service and it works great-accept when my headphone jack got messed up and Palm wanted to charge me $200 just to get it fix, sucks! But over all the screen is so bright and vivid makes the colors come ...alive. The Keyboard is not bulky and makes it easy on the finger tips. The camera is not the powerfull I only use it for quick snaps and the video recorder is a bit to fuzzy when you play back video. I haven't experience any drop calls on my service. The IM window is great and so easy to use. To finish things of Treo is the mother of all smart phones by far, I've seen what blackberrys could do and the Treo just walks over them with ease. Great Phone/PDA

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 11, 2007 | 4 out of 4 found this Palm Treo 650 Smartphone review helpful

Pros: Awesome calendar; camera/video, well integrated phone (enter contact DOB & it goes directly to your calendar), bluetooth, tons of applications

Cons: price, but I guess you pay for what you get, & you do get a lot out of this phone.

After I switched to my Treo650 from my old phone, I cannot imagine myself using other phones. I've had this phone for two years now, & it's so easy to use. The calendar/task feature is just the best in the business. I never missed an appoi...ntment or bill payment. When I switched from Cingular to TMobile, I thought I'd give those newer & better designed smartphones a try (like the sidekick, etc), thinking that it would be better, but I ended up returning it & stuck w/ my Treo (good thing I had it unlocked). I do not think I'd give this phone up ever. But I'm hearing promising claims about the upcoming IPhone that's coming out in June. Hmmmmm...I'm considering that one, but for now, Treo is definitely the best phone for professionals always on the go. Read more Less

    Great phone/pda

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 25, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Palm Treo 650 Smartphone review helpful

Pros: Reliable, easy to use, must have gadget

Cons: battery life should be longer, too expensive

I've had this phone/pda since it first came out last Febuary. This is the longest I have used a phone without looking for a replacement. I purchased the Treo 600 a year before, and replaced it with the v600 a couple of months later, followed by... the MPX200 a few months after that. The 650 has been mostly trouble free since I first got it. The updates are a must-install to keep it current. I would highly recommend this phone to everyone. I have dropped this phone may may times, and she still keeps on ticking. I'm waiting to see if the new 700p is worth the upgrade. This one caost $600 unlocked, I'm sure the 700p will be more expensive. Read more Less

    Best Smartphone ever!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 12, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Palm Treo 650 Smartphone review helpful

    Pros: Everything!

    Cons: Camera could be better

This is the best smartphone, I've ever owned. I'm on my third one now - not because they're unreliable, but because I use it so much I wear them out cosmetically. They all still work, but I give the old ones to my family members and they ...love them too! I've never had a problem with one and they are totally reliable and easy to backup/sync with my computer. The battery life is also better than other smartphones too, including the rest of the Treo family! I use it in conjunction with my MacBook Pro, Documents To Go and Missing Sync. The Palm OS is also easier to use and more reliable than the Windows mobile OS. Read more Less

Initial excitement gave into broken heart

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 9, 2008

    Pros: looks, screen, clarity

Cons: keyboard moody, warranty, service, factory warranty department

I've never had a phone break my heart until now. I spent mega bucks to get this phone with everything from factory, spending the extra money for the GSM model and all accessories, then was sent a non-GSM model, and after going to several stores, ...they finally figured this out. Warranty department only would say to send the unit to the authorized repair center, and they sent me back a reconditioned unit (minus stylus and memory card cover) with a defective keyboard. I tried unsucessfully to operate. This was a gift for my wife to resolve separate PDA and Phone needs, now depressed, out of warranty, my only option is to repair an old, defective, reconditioned unit that I paid full factory price for, and have only a half-dozen hours of use (trying). Anyone want it? I've returned to Blackberry. Read more Less
