    Stability Issues

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 20, 2005 | 46 out of 50 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

Pros: Great feature set, bright screen availability of applications

Cons: Tends to spend a lot of time locked up or rebooting.

To put this in context, I handle the mobile needs for a small manufacturing firm. We have 80 blackberries and about 8 Treo650s. While the users like the Treo initally, we have issues where the device mysteriously powers down or turns off the phone co...mponent. We have recently upgraded to the latest firmware, and while better it is still far from stable. We run the basic OS and bundled apps along with Goodlink. Nice phone, nice form factor, good camera and reasonably fast cpu. Overall experience would be great if not for the reboots. Read more Less

Feature rich, but spotty phone implementation

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 4, 2006 | 33 out of 37 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

Pros: Excellent Exchange Server integration, brilliant screen, lots of features, lots of 3rd party apps

Cons: OS not stable compared to Blackberry. Form factor makes typing more difficult. Phone coverage inconsistent...at best

I am a SF Bay Area native, have lived and worked in the East Bay for decades. I am a Blackberry user for several generations, and have subscribed to all of the major cell phone providers at one time or another. Was given this Cingular Treo 650 by... employer, and was greatly looking forward to using for the sake of free (to me) phone usage. I like the thinner form factor vs. the Nextel Blackberry 7510 I also own. It rides smaller on the belt, fits nicer into a coat pocket. The backlit color screen is far more brilliant and attractive than the BB as well. Working in low light is much easier. The included calculator supports financial (i.e., HP10c) functions out of the box, another plus. Most importantly, integration with MS Exchange Server is very good and feature rich (w/o requiring a separate BB server). QWERTY keyboard implementation, however, is really substandard compared to the Blackberry. The thinner form factor means thumb-typing is not nearly as intuitive as the BB, and shortcuts, auto-text, auto-cap and other features I'd gotten used to on the BB have no equivalent on the Treo. Also, reliability is wanting. There's a reason the Palm device has a "reset" hole under the battery cover - and the BB doesn't. I've lost count of how many times a day I have to reset the Treo...and the BB has never, never, ever, ever crashed after several years, OS upgrades and dropping it on the pavement during a hard bike ride. But most importantly, phone coverage is very poor...which degrades both connectivity with Exchange (to sync the phone with email) as well as basic phone coverage. I really tried to like the unit for the better part of a month...after all, what part of FREE PHONE SERVICE doesn't anyone understand? But after chronic failures to sync with Exchange (typically, requires so many multiple attempts, I cannot rely upon the Treo to accurately reflect the timing of email), daily resets, often after failed attempts to sync with email, and most importantly, habitually dropping phone coverage in the middle of important calls with clients (where the Blackberry maintains perfect coverage and sound quality), I've had to kick it to the curb. I realize this may have to do with geography, my drive corridor, and all the other caveats. But I'm back using the Nextel Blackberry, despite having to pay for it myself. Why? 1) It doesn't drop phone coverage 2) Email reception is immediate To summarize - Bottom line is I can rely upon the Blackberry as a business tool. This Treo is a fancy toy by comparison. Great Phone

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 7, 2006 | 15 out of 15 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

    Pros: Everything

    Cons: price

I love this phone. I have benn a palm user since the III first came out. I was waiting for a good PDA phone combination to come out. Palm's first attempt was the Tungsten W and that fell way short. For me the Treo 650 was a company upgrade from a... Treo 600 and I love it. I use the phone to synchronize the inventory of all the Servers that I support for work. I can keep track of passwords. I can take a quick picture and be sure that I am really getting what the wife asked me to pick up. I can play games and listen to music. You can even controll your TV with the right software (Novi Remote). There is even software to remotely lock or even erase both the phone and SD card, or just one, if you lose the phone. Once you pair this with a good Bluetooth earpiece you are in business. One thing the GSM version has over the CDMA version is coverage. Having a GSM version gives you more options. You can either pick up an international SIM card while traveling, or if you have international roaming your number will follow you wherever you go. Overall it a great phone. Read more Less

    Amazing

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 29, 2005 | 14 out of 16 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

Pros: The camera, the e-mail feture is amazing once you get it you can never turn back to a regualr phone.

    Cons: NONE AT ALL!

The Treo 650 is a true rich smartphone experience combining the best phone and PDA aspects. I can say with ease that it is the best phone as well as PDA that I have used. The rich built in software suite and excellent hardware combined with the large... catalogue of Palm OS software makes for an excellent mobile communicator platform. Go with the treo. Read more Less

    Still The Smartiest Mobile Phone

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 8, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

Pros: great resolution, simple user friendly OS, convenient qwerty keys, long battery life, one-hand capable operation

Cons: low video/camera resolution, poor built-in speakers

I been using my Treo 650 for almost 2 yrs now and i'm fully satisfied of its performance despite the minor product glitches. Treo's OS, to include the Documents to go software, operates smoothly and are very user friendly. I've operated m...y treo without ever consulting the manual. The resolution is superb and I can practically use all the wallpapers i've downloaded from the internet thru my notebook pc. I've scrutinized widows-based pocket pc and so far none comes close Read more Less

The pro's FAR outweigh the cons's

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 8, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

Pros: Nice screen, many usable features, fast CPU

Cons: ear piece volume level is low, easy to crack screen, reboots often

The 650 has been an overall good phone. I had a 600 prior to this, and the 650 is night and day. While traveling, I can do 95% of what I need to do from this phone (emails, attachements, etc..) The calander is great, the wireless is great. Mine i...s Verizon, so my coverage is great. The problems are minor. I've tried 3 bluetooth headphones. Each has a volume level unsuitable to airports or being outside. If you drop this phone...do anything you can to catch it. The screen WILL crack easier than an eggshell. The phone soft resets itself often...mostly when dialing a out of you call log (missed calls, recent calls, etc...) Read more Less

My favorite of 85 tested models

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 8, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) review helpful

Pros: Best camera, sharp and clear

    Cons: Heavy

I love the Treo650, in fact more than the 700w and 700p. It has the best camera I've seen, it's sharp and clear like a tv screen. Plus, it's fairly user-friendly. Good features too.
