Painkiller is a firstperson shooter set in the sinister world of gothic horror. As the mercenary known as Painkiller, players are charged with the task of eliminating the undead in whatever lair, tomb, or residence they may be lurking in. Dressed in a black overcoat and wearing sunglasses to protect himself from the harsh glare of sunlight, Painkiller has earned a reputation for his nononsense approach to demon hunting. Yet he also hides a secret: a pact with a demon has granted him special powers at the expense of his humanity.

Painkiller must fight his way past hordes of undead creatures while freeing whatever is left of their souls. With every 100 souls collected, Painkiller can transform into a ghastly creature himself, using its physical strength and ferocity to engage multiple demons at once. Players will also have at their disposal an arsenal of ranged weapons, all of which feature primary and secondary attacks. Painkiller uses the Havok physics engine (Thief III, Deus Ex: Invisible War) for its interactive 3D environments and details such as moving clothes, rippling water, and crumbling walls. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

    Very Good Gamplay

    By Deamon  Jun 21, 2007

Pros: good graphics like the ragdoll fx

Cons: some bosses are to easy!!!!!

i Like the graphix and how you get to throw your opponents around like rag dolls. It is cool with the explosives when they fly around and it is realistic how you can kick the bodies on the ground. But some of the bosses are just to easy! Like the firs...t boss looks very threataning but he sucks all he does is walk over you!(i beat him with the weakest gun in the game and i won against him!!!!!) But in the end the gameplay is awesome gothic story line and a good 5.0 in my ratings.... I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH!!!!! Read more Less

    Can't wait for Painkiller2

    By Mac  Apr 12, 2005

Pros: Variety of weapons, atmosphere, graphics

    Cons: can't think of any..

Looking back on Painkiller, I realize I had tons of fun playing the game compared to games like Doom3. Doom3 was dark, and scary but the scripted sequences, the lack of variety in locations, same old monsters, same old weapons, stupid combination loc...ks, reading of diaries that were a waste of time, etc. made it a game I was easily able to forget about. Not painkiller. Give it a try. You won't be dissappointed! Read more Less
