Pros: Interesting read-Must read the whole series!

Cons: None that I can think of.

This series has become one of my all time favorites. It starts with The Outlander. I couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to read the next book. Diana Gabaldon does an incredible job of painting a picture of the events of the time. The char...acter development is fantastic. I felt like I knew them. I almost missed them when I finished the book. When I finished the series, it was almost like losing some friends. Even though it's fiction, it still provides a great look at history, but in an interesting and exciting fashion. Read more Less

Pros: It will become one of your faves!

    Cons: There simply aren't any.

I have the full series in paperback and originally read them years ago. I gave this book to two of my friends this past Christmas, and decided to dig out my copy to read again. I absolutely love this book. Diana writes in such a way that you are imme...diately immersed in the story. It flows fast, and her characters are so well-developed that you truly feel as if you know and love them (or hate them) personally. This book has everything -- war, combat, sex, love, witches, time travel, politics, history, lore... it's got every element that one could ever want in a book. Every woman reading this wants to be Claire. And every woman reading this wants Jamie Fraser as their guy. This is far from the schmaltzy romance novel. This is truly an epic tale. The history and descriptions of Scotland Highlanders is rich, and I guarantee as you read you'll want to know more about the Jacobite Rebellion, Culloden and the Scottish clans. I also guarantee that when you finish this book, you'll immediately want to pick up the sequel. Now, what I want to know is... when's the movie coming out?? Read more Less

Publisher Notes: Outlander

  • Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another...In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon--when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach--an "outlander"--in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743.Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
