Unfortunately, this is Europe at the dawn of the second World War and the aging performer is now trapped between Nazis and Soviet forces. A relationship with a beautiful young girl (Mia Kershner) who lives near the cabaret is sparked, but the two are only split apart by the fighting. Separated, the performer stops at nothing to be reunited with his love in an epic romantic conclusion. An outstanding supporting cast bring this tragic romance to life, including the Brian Dennehy, Mercedes Ruehl, and Judd Hirsch.

    I just saw this movie on DVD. Believe me,guys, I've seen a few movies in my time but this one is exceptional!It is emotionally very strong, it proves that love is indeed the mightiest power of everything.Terrific story about two people in love when a...ll the world is at war!Cinematography, costumes and music are at very high level. This movie is a real masterpiece.Great cast!Amazing Keith Carradine and fabulous Mia Kirshner as Dan and Debora!Mercedez Ruehl, Brian Dennehy, Judd Hirsh and Bronson Pinchot are fantastic.So many good actors in just one movie.This film is unique, because it's a true to life touching story of almost every second person in the world's history and a tragedy which tore apart many families. This film makes an impact, which is difficult to put into words. It unfolds a mystery of a man, his passion and questions his loyalty. This film breaks your heart, makes you weep in every turn, but it leaves you with a true telling of love and faith, it teaches what love is about.A film not to be missed! I strongly recommend it.
