This is an exciting free bop album. Vinny Golia (who switches between tenor, baritone, soprano, and sopranino) teams up with the witty and extroverted trombonist Mike Vlatkovich, pianist Wayne Peet, bassist Ken Filiano, and drummer Alex Cline for frequently explosive interplay on six of his more colorful originals. Although it would have been nice to have liner notes that told the stories behind the unusual song titles (which include "Joey Evans Spies the Mouse," "The Great Adams City Caper," and "I Never Want to Miss Last Fall"), the music itself needs no explanation. Highly recommended to the more open-eared listener, this is one of Vinny Golia's finest recordings to date.
