Bay Area-based Orixa got involved in the California Latin rock scene in the early '90s. Playing Latin ska, hip-hop, funk, and reggae, the band's self-titled debut album was recorded in 1996, after they signed to Aztlán Records. In addition, Orixa participated in two rock en Español compilations called Puro Eskanol and Aztlán Alternativo.
