Large-aperture refractors have always held strong allure among amateur astronomers because of their exquisite image quality. The problem has been their prohibitively high price.

Orion is changing that! The Skywatcher 120 brings the big refractor within reach of normal budgets. With clear, unobstructed aperture of almost 5", the Skywatcher 120 boasts a whopping 178% of the light-gathering ability of a 90mm refractor! Its multi-coated 120mm achromatic objective lens has a 1000mm focal length, making it a medium-fast f/8.3 system, capable of sharp, high-contrast images from planetary and lunar sources, but also able to reveal structure in more elusive objects. Moving up to the 120mm class of refractor means those targets you once forsook as too indistinct for serious observation now become compelling, detailed attractions. You'll prize the crisp detail visible in Jupiter's cloud belts at 100x, or even pushed to 200x or higher power with optional eyepieces. The lunar landscape bursts with rich, stark relief. Open and globular star clusters make especially fine subjects, and the Skywatcher's ample resolving power provides pleasing views of scores of nebulas and galaxies as well.
