Pro Reviews: Original Hit Records

  • All Music Guide

Since the Cameo and Parkway label catalogs have never seen official CD release, fans who have tired of waiting for a legitimate reissue of Bobby Rydell's original hits have been forced to turn to bootlegs such as Original Hit Records, a 30-song collection of early-'60s recordings mastered from vinyl. The sound quality is good enough to fill the gap in the meantime, and for everyone who doesn't own the original records, there's simply no other way. Rydell's hits are presented in descending order according to chart position beginning with his biggest hit, "Wild One." Nearly everything here was a hit, with only Rydell's Top 40 Christmas duet with Chubby Checker ("Jingle Bell Rock") being conspicuous in its absence.
