Synopsis: Ordinary People (1980)
Synopis: Devastated by the loss of their older son, well-to-do suburban couple Calvin (Donald Sutherland) and Beth (Mary Tyler Moore) are trying to rebuild their lives after their younger son, Conrad (Timothy Hutton), attempts suicide. While Beth, who always favored the elder son, retreats into an icy, emotionless shell, Calvin tries to draw Conrad back into the family and into life as a teenager. Conrad sings in the choir and returns to the swim team, but both his brother's death and his own experiences traumatize him. Conrad reluctantly begins therapy sessions with Berger (Judd Hirsch), which allow him some respite from the unbearable grief and guilt he carries with him. As Conrad makes strides, Calvin realizes that he no longer knows his wife and is both saddened and angered by how seemingly emotionless she has become. A classic portrait of family life in the face of tragedy, Robert Redford's award-winning directorial debut is moving and thought provoking. Based on the novel by Judith Guest, the film features the debuts of Timothy Hutton and Elizabeth McGovern as well as breakthrough performances from Mary Tyler Moore and Donald Sutherland.Features: Ordinary People (1980)

Cons: Conrad Jarrett...ha ha ha
This movie is well acted, and follows an amazingly compelling story. Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore, and especialy Timothy Hutton as the deeply droubled Conrad, were all amazing. This is one of my favorite movies of all time! P.S. Read the book, it's quite good too!

Pros: acting,casting,directing
Cons: picture quality,lack of features
This film is more than just ordinary. it ia masterpiece of porportions in acting directing and performing that lead to academy awards in different catigories. I never thought I would see Mary Tyler Moore in such a role as this. She seems to be more a light hearted, comical person. I would think for that reason alone that she would not want to be typecast.
This is a story of a family that is struggleing from being torn apart. When a tragic boat accident clams a life of one out of four family member times and feelings are rough. The mom (Moore) is dealing with the loss the most when she thinks it is her son's fault that her other son dies in the accident. Her characterhas a feel of her caring for her older son more than her younger. The father is trying to keep peace in the family and go on their lives. The younger son (Hutton) is dealing with it the most form both his mother's cold attitude and his guilt that he could have done more to save his older brother. He goes to extremes by trying to "off" himself and thus being taken to the hospital. For those how like Drama and good drama that one can relate to this move is the one for you. I know I could never get tired of seeing such good acting rather it being comedy, drama, etc. ...
