Optoma HD72
How inexpensive can quality front projection get? We thought we had an idea until the Optoma HD72 ($2,000) DLP projector came in for review. It costs less than just about any HD-resolution DLP unit on the market, yet produced a picture that constantly surprised us with its accuracy and quality. We... more...

Pros: Too many to list, see full review
Cons: None so far
I've had the Optoma HD72 now for about six months. I'm projecting onto a 92" 16:9 Elite Screen. I did extensive research before making a decision and I have no regrets, for value, the performance is supurb, quality of HD images are absolutly brilliant.

The specs in the writeup on Yahoo didn't seem to match the manufactures specs. As I understand its contrast ratio is 5000:1, Lumens are 1,300, and 720p.

All my inputs are connected through a B&K Reference 50 series 2 Home Theatre Pre-amp Processor. All video inputs are through a single component video cable. Video inputs include cable, dvd, & media pc.
The projector automatically switches aspect ratio to 4:3 when neccessary for not HD programming. The only time I hear the fan is when the system is powered off, it runs for just a few seconds to cool the lamp.
As far as lighting, for maximum brightess a completely blacked out room is best, but I have a very bright hallogen light that is often on in the room as well as two outside windows that allow natural light and still brightness is good, but again darkeness is preferred.
The remote was very easy to navigate and set up the system. Also adjusting the image to the screen is very simple and can be done once and then you never have to adjust it again.
Did I mention picture quality. That's where this system shines. Image sharpness is spectacular. I would recommend this to anyone.
