    Pessimistic Folk

    Despite the title, The Optimist LP, this is a rather dark album that takes on many shapes both musically and lyrically. Three or four *amazing* songs, all the rest at least great. I'm not much into melodic music, generally prefering metal and other... harsher sounds, but Turin Brakes won me over with little effort. Best British release of 2001, perhaps worldwide.     For being so young, these guys are so good it's almost scary. Great tunes, lyrics and musicianship--makes you wonder what later albums will be like. One of the best cds this year.

    If you love Coldplay, enter Turin Brakes

    Turin Brakes has an incredible sound that makes it very easy to get lost in the album as each song has that special hook to snare you in and drag you through the moment. "The Optimist" is a great ending song and one of those tracks that you can see y...ourself making love to..."The Door" and "Underdog" have this great folk sound that is very unlike anything that you have probably heard, but still familiar nonetheless due to sheer power of the songs.     I went in yeaster day to get some new tunes and the lady in the store wanted me to hear them..so i did. they are great... it's like a life is great..sign along with the radio with the windows down kind of tunes...they rock.
