    I have been a hardcore Tool fan for about around 4 months now and I recently bought this album. I must say, this shows the aggression that the band jumped into the music business with. These guys are awesome, and every word that Maynard yells on this... album is full of truth and thought.     This, like the other tool albums is a very moody cd. It wraps you up and places you in the demented mind of maynard. One of my favorite albums period. Has excellent listening value 5 years after i bought it.

    i believe that this is quite possibly the greatest debut from any band, everything in this album is perfect, this is some of the most powerful of tool's music...dont believe me?     This is raw angry pure rock/metal at its very best. They have progressed so much from thier first ep. But this is where the tool legacy began and still to this day opiate sits high above the rest of todays lame attempts at angst rock. Only rage again...st the machine's debut can compare to this one.
