this is for the dumbass who says he has words of wisdom. you have an opinion. you cannot call that wisdom. when you actually wise up a little, you might realize this. and if people know who operation ivy is, then they know who green day and nofx are.... so your plugs are useless and a waste. you should have used your only review to plug some good underground punk. personally, i think this is a good cd. i like ska, and i like the ska chords. it's good to see a ska band that feels they don't need the horns. if you don't like them, don't listen to them. Pros: Its good

Cons: Mainstream has bad taste if no-one knows this

Ill try to describe this to the limit of my ability... IT IS THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME. How these guys arent famous Ill never know. And no u losers Jesse Michaels does not scream, his voice is raw passionate emotion and you cant say no to that. The ...Crowd is far and away my favorite song of all time, listening to it for the first time was like being electrocuted cos you can feel their energy and its just the most amazing feeling. Sound System, Knowledge and Unity are just supreme beyond words, as are Jaded, Yelling in my ear, Vunerability, Here we go again... I could go on forever but I wont bother. My sound advice to you is dont listen to what all your pop-obsessed friends tell you, this is punk in its purest form and i highly recommend it. End. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Operation Ivy

  • All Music Guide

After Operation Ivy called it quits at the end of the '80s, Lookout put together this compilation of all of the recorded studio material ever released by the group. Much like Minor Threat's Complete Discography, this follows the recorded history of a band that burnt out quickly and had a relentlessly creative view of punk music. The underground classics are all here: "Take Warning," "Unity," "Freeze Up," "Junkie's Runnin' Dry," and 23 other prime tracks. Being one of the first bands to pursue the ska punk sound in California, Operation Ivy was a trailblazer in a genre that quickly became generic due to a glut of likeminded artists. But this should not be held against the group because they made fantastic music for the short time they existed. The CD comes complete with the lyrics to all of the songs, and several good pictures of the band. Countless bands would ape this sound without any creative improvement throughout the '90s, and two of the members would go on to lead the more punkin...fluenced Rancid. This might be the best ska punk collection by a single band committed to disc, and anyone with even a passing interest in the genre should do themselves a favor and buy this album right away. - Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Operation Ivy

One of the first bands to fuse revivalist ska with the energy and aggression of post-hardcore punk rock (after the Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Operation Ivy was also one of the few ska-punk bands to earn critical acclaim. Part of the reason was that they were one of the genre's innovators, possessed of a freshness that many of their imitators lacked, but their lyrics were... Read more
