Pros: very strong vocal performance, heavy guitars, overall band maturity

The Open Door is Evanescence's sophmore album after the major success of their first album Fallen. Like just about every other Evanescence fan out in the world, I had enourmous expectations about this album, but as soon as the very first single, "Call Me When You're Sober," hit the radio, I knew that I would love this album. Over the three year break, the band has matured and progressed so much, and you can tell that in this entire album. Each song has incredible soul and such a powerful message behind it, which is why I enjoy Evanescence. With Fallen, I could easily pick which songs were my favorite, but I still have yet to choose a favorite song off of the Open Door. THEY'RE ALL THAT GOOD. Now some fans will be disappointed by The Open Door, due to the fact that they feel that there is not enough rock, or for other reasons, and I will agree, a little more rock would have made the album even better. However, the more anyone listens to this album, the more and more it will grow on you, it did for me. Overall, The Open Door is a great sophmore album to an amazing band. It exceeded my expecatations and many others. I feel that it is a better album than Fallen, and it will be an even bigger hit too. Just about every Evanescence fan will love this album. ...

Evanescence là một nhóm rock nổi tiếng kể từ sau album Fallen (album đầu tiên) mà trong đó có bài Bring me to life (soundtrack của bộ phim Daredevil) mà các fan nhạc rock ai cũng từng nghe qua. Trong lần trở lại này, Evanescence đã mang lại một phong cách mới, mạnh mẽ hơn. Thay đổi về lời bài hát: lời bài hát của Evan không còn "đẫm máu" như hồi xưa nữa , không còn những "bleeding", "screaming", "dying",... mà thay vào đó là những câu hát có ý nghĩa và "thực tế" hơn rất nhiều. Nếu trong Fallen, lời bài hát dùng để miêu tả những cảm giác u tối của tình yêu được nhấn mạnh đến mức đôi khi "thái quá" như "tôi đang chết dần mòn, tôi hét lên, tôi đau đến mức chảy cả máu" thì trong The Open Door, cũng nội dung thế, cũng đau buồn thế, cũng tuyệt vọng thế,... nhưng Amy đã thuyết phục người nghe hơn rất nhiều bởi cách sử dụng từ ngữ đa dạng, gợi cảm và chân thật hơn rất nhiều . Ta có thể xét ví dụ trong "Call me when you are sober" chẳng hạn , những câu văn rất "bình dân", dễ đọc, dễ hiểu. Thêm 1 điều nữa, lyrics trong Fallen rất dễ nghe, do chỉ cần 1 vài câu làm nền thì từ đấy có thể lặp đi lặp lại thành bài luôn (Haunted & Going under & Whisper....) còn trong "The Open door" khó nghe hơn rất nhiều..... Cả 12 track trong album đều rất đáng nghe và không nên bỏ qua track nào cả, đặc biệt là khi nghe liên tục theo thứ tự album như 1 chuỗi liên hoàn móc xích, từng track này lại là chất xúc tác bổ sung cho track khác... và cứ như thế tạo thành 1 món ăn thượng hạng, 1 album bổ dưỡng cho cái tai nghe nhạc của chúng ta. Có thể bạn sẽ gặp đôi chỗ giông giống nhau ở các track...nhưng bảo đảm là bạn sẽ không thấy nhàm chán chút nào cả. Đặc biệt ở những track mà theo cảm nhận cá nhân mình là "chỗ nối" album như track 1 ( Sweet Sacrifice) , track 4 ( Lithium ) , track 7 ( Lacrymosa ), track cuối (Good Enough) thì lại càng nên được nghe nhiều hơn nữa. Album này "nặng" hơn Fallen, đối với những ai không nghe Rock thì sẽ thấy nó dở & khó nghe hơn Fallen nhưng sự thật thì cái này hay hơn Fallen rất rất rất nhiều đấy. Còn rất ít cái chất "bí ẩn" như hồi Fallen như trong các track Haunted, Whisper, Imaginary,... nhưng người nghe có thể hài lòng với cái vụ "nặng" thế này, sự chuyển style của Evans lần này hoàn toàn thành công. Còn cái "bí ẩn" có chăng qua Album này chỉ thể hiện ở mỗi đầu track với những dàn đồng ca ghê rợn hay tiếng guitar, tiếng bass đánh tan

Bạn nghe cái này được 4 tháng rồi. Ban đầu hơi khó nghe vì cấu trúc nhiều bài khá phức tạp, nhưng bây giờ lại mê những bài í nhất :)
Album gồm 13 bài, trong đó có 3 bài hoàn toàn do Amy Lee sáng tác 100%, còn lại là đồng sáng tác với Terry Balsamo. Những bài số chẵn thì dễ nghe hơn và êm hơn (2 single đã phát hành đều nằm trong diện này). Bạn đã biết trước là chất nhạc mới của Evan sẽ khác trước, nhưng vẫn hết sức ngạc nhiên, phải nói là đỉnh của đỉnh sáng tạo. Tuy bán không chạy bằng Fallen nhưng bạn hi vọng cho một vài cái Grammy năm tới lắm lắm.
Chất nhạc của Evan là pha trộn giữa rock, goth và classical thế nên rất hợp với tính cách của bạn. Mới đây bạn rất vui khi nghe thằng bạn thân cùng lớp khen ngợi và bình "nghe như có cả cuộc sống trong đó vậy"! :) Ủng hộ cho Evan nhé!Was this review helpful? Yes - NoEvanescence - Open Door

Pros: Beautifully put together with haunting melodies.
Cons: For non-fans, the lyrics may be confusing at times.
This is the best of the Goth Rock groups, and they are at their peak. I was impatiently awaiting this album after I completely wore out the first one. This album is just as great as the first with it's smooth tones and slightly melancholy lyrics. I love it because it blends pure, powerful vocals and intoxicating instrumentals (like the Celtic music I love) with hard rock (which I also love). There's also a bit of sass thrown in for good measure. This is a must-have album.

I love Evanescense and wish I didn't wait so long to buy this album. It is just as great as the first one. I liked every song on the first album and felt the same about Open Door. "Lithium" especially stood out to me as well as "Call Me When You're Sober." If you're looking for fast-paced, upbeat music, this isn't it. If your taste leans more tward Goth-Rock and Rocker Chicks, this is your album. Go out and buy it today!
