Pros: The good: World's first hardware- and software-upgradable A/V receiver; full 7.1-channel A/B speaker switching; unprecedented connectivity options; THX Ultra 2 certified; high-end build quality.

Cons: The bad: The multilayered menus may confound even the most experienced home-theater mavens; upgrades cost even more money; current HDMI card can't handle multichannel audio; expensive.

The bottom line: Onkyo's new flagship receiver can be all you want it to be, now and in the future.
