    The old farts rock, indeed

    By Joel S  Jun 7, 2002

I have had the opportunity to see these guys live twice (in 2 nights) in 1999. Despite their age, they put more passion and energy into their shows than any young "punk" bands that I've ever seen. I've seen a lot of great bands live and they are by f...ar the best (save Fugazi - who are pretty close). While it can be hard to catch them on tour, if you get the chance - go. Even if you aren't the biggest fan of their music, the show itself is awe inspiring (and I'm not referring to light shows, fake smoke, film reels or any of that pretentious crap - one of the aforementioned shows was in a warehouse, but it was still incredible). Wow...

    By Boris  Dec 13, 2000

In a time and day when punk rock is dominated by young kids, it's nice to see old farts rocking for once. The scary thing is, they're more interesting than most all of the bands out there. On listening to this highly progressive piece of punk art, yo...u can't just label it "punk". It's a mixture of so many elements. Read more Less

While Nomeansno has yet to reach the high watermark they did with Wrong, One comes pretty close. Their music is intense and heavy collegiate punk. They come right at the listener, intent on convincing them, bodily if necessary, of their honesty and urgency. The simple elements of their impressive sonic aura are heavily pounding drums and rhythmic guitar ready to bring forth bursts of noise. This album concludes with two stunning covers that only make sense coming from Nomeansno. First is the dark side of the Ramones, "Beat on the Brat," and a version of Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" with lyrics that, while fitting, are guaranteed never to receive airplay.

Biography

Nomeansno

Often bizarre punk band from Victoria, British Columbia, featuring brothers Rob (bass, guitar, vocals) and John Wright (vocals, drums, keyboards). The group's punk hybrid also encompasses touches of jazz, funk, and metal, with special emphasis laid on jarring, hard-to-follow rhythms. Their lyrics are often self-consciously weird, but the group is frequently original and... Read more
