Here's something most fans probably never expected: a Trees bootleg CD, compiling live-in-the-studio BBC performances from 1970 and 1971. This folk-rock band released two albums in 1970, and songs from both are included here, with some commentary from singer Celia Humphries. On the downside, tracks 8 through 10 sound identical to the album versions. On the upside, tracks 11 through 15 are presumably the only available recordings of the band after the departures of David Costa and Unwin Brown and the addition of Barry Lyons and Alan Eden (ex-Mr. Fox) and fiddler Chuck Fleming. All are songs the band never released, and all are as good as what came before. The sound quality is about average for this sort of thing (meaning not good, but adequate if you're an interested fan), and, given that Trees has only ever had a cult following at best, it's amazing that this ever came out at all.

It didn't work as well for the Trees, for several re... Read more
