    Pros: She Has Amazing Talent

Cons: None, wut you talkin bout?

I'v had the oportunity to listen to this album before its release date, and ever since then, I have encouraged people to buy this album. Her talent is true and absolutely breathtaking. My favorite song is Wild Horses which has been re-done by man...y artists but i have never heard this song sung so beautifully. Ms. Martin is a beautiful person inside and out, I strongly encourage you to purchase this cd and experience her beauty for yourself. With Love, MeredithP.S. Strong album

Pros: complex layering, beautiful lyrics, amazing voice

Cons: Can't think of any. :)

Charlotte Martin really knows how to make an album, and "On Your Shore" proves it. I've followed her career for about a year, so I'm a little biased, but this album is beyond what I was anticipating. The lyrics and melodies of her s...ongs are fantastic in their bare forms, but Charlotte uses layered vocals and instruments to make her songs rich and complex. However, she also knows exactly which songs to leave with just her voice, her piano, and another instrument; these tracks are powerful in their simplicity. If you have even the slightest interest in checking out a new artist, I definitely recommend getting this album. You will not regret it- I mean it. Also, if you ever come across the opportunity to see Charlotte perform live...TAKE IT. She is an amazing and engaging live performer, and I guarantee she will blow you away. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: On Your Shore

  • All Music Guide

Charlotte Martin spent a good part of her teenage years obsessively studying the work of Kate Bush. She's more than a fan; she's a devout follower of Bush's mystical songbook of art and romance, from which she gained enough confidence to find her own voice and style. Now in her late twenties, Martin bows to her idol while composing a theatrical and fearless presentation on her RCA fulllength debut, On Your Shore. Failure's Ken Andrews produces the dozentrack set. His meticulous approach allows Martin to fully let go emotionally as a singer while On Your Shore's journey of selfdiscovery and selfanalysis is torn asunder. Adding to the masque are drummer Joey Waronker, arranger Craig Armstrong, and bassist Justin MeldelJohnsen. Having these particular musicians involved in the session carries Martin's passionate delivery beyond her alliance with her piano. It's on the bigger numbers that she truly shines as a performer; from the Curetinged string arrangements of "Haunted" to the purling b...uildup of "Madman," Martin broadsides any kind of spite or scorn that's crossed her path. Not only is there a fight for honesty and bravery; such a challenge equals strength. The coppertoned chills of the album's title track and the sword dance of "Limits of Our Love" make that promise, too. Echoes of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," "Sat in Your Lap," and "Experiment IV" slightly reverberate throughout, but only in flattery. On Your Shore breathes with a similar kind of energy that's in those particular songs, highlighting the notion that grasping for something that you believe in and doing it with every fiber of your being, regardless of the outcome, is worth it. Every hush, hum, and ooh is perfectly matched to each pounding tremor of Martin's piano. That in itself supports the surefire dynamic that is On Your Shore. Martin wanted to make an album that matters as much as any Kate Bush record meant to her. She couldn't have gotten it any better. As Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan get older, there's room for others to step in. Welcome, Charlotte Martin, welcome. - MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide Read more Less
