    Olympus 710- PERFECT!

By louise jayne  Jan 19, 2007 | 8 out of 8 found this Olympus Stylus 710 review helpful

Pros: Very fast 'snap' of image, BIG screen, little sized camera-classy style, quality of photos!, GREAT macro &supermacro settings, great self-portrait option too, battery life not too bad

Cons: Hard to see screen on bright day, no cropping on camera

This was my very first digital camera- I was very fond of my little Olympus Mju/ Stylus (different name same model from 1999)- so it was a big thing to look at digital- and do I stay with Olympus or get sucked inot the 'canon' vaccum- like so... many other people??? WELL I am sooooooo glad I stuck with the proven name of Olympus- I have the same lens as I had in my old one- and the MANY benefits of digital! Im a real convert (this camera made it an EASY transition!)- its been SO easy to use! Small enough to take whereever I go- and very sturdy- easy to keep (scratchresistant) screen clean! I brought the camera on appro- but COULDN"T go without it after just one week. It takes great pictures- impressive on macro and then has supermacro setting as well to choose from!! And none of that nasty 'icey/ 3Dimensional/cut-out' look some digital cameras seem to have- espically seen on people a t times. It was very important to me that the camera take photos quickly- so as to miss no moments. Also the 'lag' between being able to take pitures isn't too bad either. I am really quite pleased with the battery life- takes 4-5 hours to charge I think - and goes a suitable amount when I take pletny of pictures- flash use makes a big difference. It captures movement CLEARLY even on portrait setting! had NO blurry pictures yet! Great little musically enhanced 'slideshow' option too. Impresses everyone with my photos- mainly of landscape, closups, and people. ONLY thing it doesn't do is cropping in camera- but Im sure the great support programme disc it comes with would allow that- my computer is too oldfashioned to use this! Great forgiving to a beginner I think. Its a quality point-and-shot- with a decent zoom too. My advice- spend what you have to to get what you want- and this camera is WELL WORTH IT! (Though a cool $649.00 in New Zealand!!!!!) Read more Less

    Stylus 710

    By B  Dec 20, 2006 | 6 out of 6 found this Olympus Stylus 710 review helpful

Pros: Compact, many features, large LCD

Cons: Some problems with included software

I received the 710 as a gift and overall am very pleased. Being used to using SLRs the small size was initially off putting. I felt like I would drop it if I wasn't careful. Now the wrist strap is always around my wrist and the small size is conv...enient to carry anywhere. It has many different shooting modes: portrait, landscape, behind glass, etc. I never had any problems with image quality but then almost every pic I take is at the highest resolution. You never know when you'll want to enlarge something in the background. I was very pleased with the printed final picture also. The only annoying problem I've had is with the software that comes with the Stylus 710. I went ahead and paid the extra 20 bucks or something for the extra features. You can do regular panoramas with the basic software but in the extra you can do things like free stitch panorama, movie editing, slide shows and some other things. If you are doing an expecially large free stitch panorama make sure you have plenty of RAM. More than once I crashed the software using too many pictures. Also, I never could get the back up feature to work. I would try to put my photos on cdrom and it would tell me I didn't have a readable drive or something. I emailed tech support and they just told me to use the burning software that would've come with my computer. That fixed that problem. I also had trouble with saving pics after I had edited them with the camera software(contrast, saturation, etc.). Sometimes I would finish and save the pic over the original and come back and find the file no longer existed. I learned the hard way to save as another file name. Overall, a very good camera with many features in a very compact size. Read more Less

  • Steve's Digicams

    Olympus Stylus 710

Bottom line - the Olympus Stylus 710 continues the tradition of the Stylus line by offering good image quality, great performance, and sleek design all packed in a weather resistant shell. This is one of our favorite models in this series, when you pick one up you'll see why. It was a blast to use and I found very few problems in actual use. The image quality could be better and unfortunately it uses the incredibly slow xD memory cards that Olympus and Fujifilm designed (we hope someday they'll switch to SD). If you're in the market for a versatile little pocket-rocket that you can take out into the rain, look no further. With an MSRP of about $349, we feel it offers an outstanding value and should be a very popular model this year. Read more

    Olympus Stylus 710

The most affordable of three new Stylus-series digital cameras announced at the Spring 2006 Photo Marketing Association tradeshow was Olympus' new Stylus 710. As with the rest of the Stylus line, the Olympus 710 design is based around a weatherproof body that ensures wherever you go, your camera will go right along with you - unhindered by rain, sleet or snow that would see most digicams left at home or in a sealed case, unable to get that chance-of-a-lifetime photo that sneaks up on you when you're not prepared.Inside its pocket-friendly and relatively lightweight all-weather chassis, there's an Olympus-branded 3x optical zoom with a 37 - 111mm equivalent focal length range and F3.4 - 5.7 maximum aperture, coupled with a 7.1 megapixel imager and 2.5" LCD display that has 115,000 pixels. As is common on many digicams these days, this LCD is the sole method of framing images, as the Stylus 710 forgoes any form of optical viewfinder. Read more
