Easy to use, can view pics and download using smart media disk or plug in. just don't pack in your luggage and travel by plane. It won't make it. Olympus support not the best. Their website is not very good.
I have yet to find a flaw with this camera or to find a match for it,the only very minor setback is the older style slower downloading.Olypus came out with usb cam's right after this model.
I bought the D-460Z at BestBuy nearly 2 years ago for around $400. The camera has given trouble free performance all along. The 3X zoom feature is quite handy. The 1.3M pixels may sound low by todays standards, but the pics look good enough on my laptop with 1024x768 res.
Have enjoyed the camera and the fact that I can download pics from the disk to my laptop or desktop. Now I don't miss out on shots taken on vacations because I can review before moving on to the next. I also don't have to worry about how many pics I take or the problems of developing film.
This was my first digital camera. It has an Ergenomically perfect design and an easy to operate menu. It has the panorama function, without which I cannot live. It also has a large and clear LCD screen. The camera is reliable and has EXCELLENT picture quality even at low resolutions and varying light conditions. Why do you need a high resolution high megapixel camera at all? unless you are addicted to printing 8 " X 10 " photos every day. If you are in the market for a beginners camera, this is a great choice.
I have had my camera about 18 months and have enjoyed it. It is easy to use with a fair picture. I recently had a problem with the exposure, as the pictures are whitewashed.
After sending it in for repair I find out it cost $135.00. I'm not real happy about that! Also the only place that can repair it is Olympus, not so with some other camera...
For the money as an entry level digital this camera is truly remarkable. This is my 3rd digital camera and I love it! With an optional 64 MB smart media card I can get 979 low res pics or 146 Hi res pics. The battery life seems pretty good and unlike a lot of cameras, this one can use AAs so a battery is never that far from reach.
THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THAT ONE GUY SAYING YOU CAN GET MORE BANG FOR 350 ON A DIFFERENT CAMERA? JUST CURIOUS WHICH ONE, I REACEARCHED ALL CAMERAS UP TO 500 AND I DONT SEE ONE...
I am not a professional fotographer, but I want
to take nice pictures like pro's fotos. That's why I
chose this camera. I found it with a very cheaper price
than its retail price in yahoo shopping and I just
bought it.
The picture quality is not the best but
it is OK. The pictures are a little darker and
noisier than usual . But if you increase brightness and
resize picture, it even looks better than regular
photos. Unfortunately it comes to a smaller size than 1.3
MP when you want a crisp sharp picture.
The
upload process is slow but it is not a problem for me,
cause I deal with other things -I surf the web- while
its uploading in the background. And if you also have
an adapter or rechargable batteries, this camera is
the best buy for %80 of digital camera customers.
It's the size of an index card, but takes 2.11MP images and has a 3x optical zoom. Kinda neat is that you can take mini QuickTime movies with it and you can watch them on your TV. Like Olympus digital cameras in this price range, it produces nice images, but it seems you can get more for your money elsewhere.
This is my 2nd digital camera. I purchased the
Olympus as a replacement for my old Epson 550, which
takes exceptional shots, but is limited to 640x480,
without a flash or zoom lens. I spent hours reading
reviews and comparisons before I decided on the Olympus.
I bought it online, from Circuit City- $52.00
cheaper than the in-store price, and with an additional
$39.00 mail in rebate. Although ordered on-line, I
picked the camera up at the store, saving shipping
charges and getting almost instant
gratification.
I have not been disappointed. The D460Z has many
features found only in more expensive cameras: 5 different
resolution, compression, and image formats: 5 flash modes,
auto or manual white balance, spot or average
exposure, +/- F stops, 3x optical zoom, TV out... I could
go on and on! This camera is the best quality in
it's price range, with image quality not found in
other more expensive units. The only negative comment I
have regards the 2x digital zoom, which always
captures in 640x480, high compression (lower quality)
mode. You can get a better quality high zoom picture by
using the 3x optical zoom in 1.3 megapixel, super high
quality mode, and then cropping the result to the desired
size.
Since I am by no means a camera buff, I was
looking for a camera that was easy to use, didn't cost a
fortune, and, most importantly, took great pictures. The
Olympus D-460 fit the bill perfectly.
I used it
for the first time on a trip to Colorado and the
Grand Canyon this past summer and people who looked at
the pictures could hardly believe that they had been
taken by a digital camera. The only difference between
this camera and a 35 mm(that I could see, anyway) was
that the digital pix tend to turn out a bit
darker.
Olympus's excellent Camedia software took care of this
minor problem, along with many other photo-editing
chores, without a hitch. I would recommend, however, the
purchase of some high speed downloading device(I use
Viking Intelliflash) to get the pictures from the camera
to the Camedia software, especially if you have
taken a number of pictures. One could grow old waiting
for the download, to say nothing of the battery
drain. Best to get yourself some rechargeables and keep
an extra set on hand(the camera takes 4
batteries).
Overall, an excellent value for the money. And now the
460's "big brother", the 490, is available. Either way,
you can't go wrong, even if you know squat about
cameras and picture taking.
