Cons: Low battery life
I bought this camera on a very tight budget and only the faintest knowledge of how to use a digital camera, or even how they work. About the only things I knew were they had an LCD screen in the back, and they didn't take film. I bought this camera for $165.00 from buydig.com, and I would like to also complement them for their outstanding service. This camera is very good for people just starting out using a digital camera because the controlls are outstandingly easy to use. I didn't even crack open the manual until I wanted to know how to turn off the flash. The 16MB card that comes with it was OK for the first few days, seeing as how it can only hold about 20 medium-high quality pictures, but I bought a 64 MB card which can hold about 80 pictures of the same quality. If this product has a drawback, it would be it's outstandingly short battery life. I know it's inevetable when using a digital camera, but that doesn't make me any happier about it. The AA batteries that came with it lasted about 6 hours. I was not impressed. That, however is this camera's only drawback. IT IS, HOWEVER, MOST DEFINATELY A POINT AND SHOOT CAMERA ONLY. If you are a professional photographer, or are shooting in some different environments, I DON'T RECOMEND THIS CAMERA TO YOU! It is simply too simple for the more experienced photographer. ...

Olympus D-540 Zoom Digital Camera
The D-540 offers really excellent value for the money. With a 3.3 megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens, it captures sharp, good-looking photos with good color, has an excellent macro mode, does surprisingly well under low-light conditions, and even handles household incandescent lighting well if... more...

Pros: Simplicity, speed, size
Cons: Simplicity, user guide
The same qualities that make this camera simple, also limit its capabilities. While I enjoyed being able to pull this camera out and quickly take snapshots due to its rapid startup, I was unable to finely tune in situations that required it.
That having been said, I have not taken a bad picture with this camera. It has program settings for virtually any condition. I have taken extreme low light shots thanks to its night scene program, and have had no problem with fast-moving subjects. One feature that sets this camera apart from others in its price range is the Continuous Shooting Speed of 1.5 fps. For shots such as a moving roller coaster, I can just let it rip, then delete the unwanted shots. The supplied 16 mb xD picture card memory is woefully inadequate. I immediately picked up a 256 mb card which is relatively inexpensive and allows capture of multiple high-quality images suitable for prints as large as 8X10.
Image retrieval was simple using my Windows XP machine and the supplied USB cable. Battery usage was reasonable given that I used flash for 80% of my shots. I am using a nickel metal hydride battery/charger system and can go about a day on a pair of batteries.
While this camera is by no means as small as some of the newer compact cameras, it is small enough to fit in a pocket (albeit with a noticeable bulge), thus assuring that you will have it when you need it. The advantage that it does have over the compacts is an outstanding feature/price ratio, along with Olympus ...
