    Nursery Cryme

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 28, 2001

Phil Collins, fresh from his former band Flaming Youth, puts together some grooves that would later become staples of classic Gabriel Genesis. Ditto for Steve Hackett, back then a relatively unknown figure, who for all intents and purposes was very i...mpressive for having not played in any bands prior to Genesis. Tony Banks was starting to mess with other keyboards, mainly Mellotron with Mike and Peter really starting to go into their own as musicians really. Lyrically, the band were more adventurous with Peter starting to understand theatre and stagecraft. But musically, there really is very little change from Trespass. Very influenced by King Crimson's debut (who wasn't at the time) it shows a band still in transition trying to find their nich. All things taken into consideration it is an album chocked full of wonderful ideas set to a new voice by Peter. It took a couple of tours for the band to fully realize their potential. Having said that, this album is better than most that were being conceived at the time. I find this to be a low key "John Barley Corn Must Die." A good album, but better things were to yet to come... Gensis Enters The Progressive Rock Era

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 28, 2001

With this third album, Genesis fully enters the progressive rock era, indeed largely defines a major portion of it. Containing the quintissential "The Musical Box," second only to "Supper's Ready" as their very best work, everything about this album... is top-notch including the cover art which sports the best illustration of all Gensis albums. Other stand-out tracks include "Harold The Barrel," "The Fountain of Salmacis," and "The Return of the Giant Hogweed" which features some of the best keyboard-guitar interplay of any song from the Gabriel years. If the subsequent two albums weren't so stellar themselves, this would rank as the best of their early 70s era work. Read more Less

    Interesting, often exhilerating

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 22, 2000

A real attempt to push the boundaries at the time. Some of it sounds a little dated, and the original production a bit muddy - but some of their most exhilerating and daring songs - "Musical Box" and "...Hogweed". Hackett's guitar to the fore. A uni...que sound. Read more Less

    Great potential

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 11, 2000

This album is a bit inconsistent, but has a few stand-outs, including "The Musical Box" and "The Fountain of Salmacis," two of the best compositions by the group. A worthy buy for the true fan.

When I first heard this album I was crying. Those were the tears of admiration. I simply adore this one. That's all I can say about it.

    The real Genesis begins..

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 27, 2000

Nursery Cryme is the first album with the real Genesis line-up. Phil Collins joins the group on drums and Steve Hackett on guitar. There are some classic tracks such as Musical Box and the Fountain of Salmacis. But short numbers such as For Absent F...riends and Seven Stones are at the forefront. Godawful production ruins more than one great song. Read more Less

Some of Peter's best and more

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 4, 2000

This album is one of Peter's best albums lyrically. It is a true mind warp. It leaves you hanging. It is one of those albums that you can repeatedly listen to and not get tired of. Excellent album, but not a whole lot of improvement over the first o...ne. Read more Less
