By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 5, 2002

OK sure pop's not everyone's favourite type of music (or 'music' as you probably would put it). Fair enough. But why do you guys loathe something like this so much? I mean no-one's forcing you to buy this CD. Hell, it was your own choice to search for this on Yahoo yourself for God's sake! You didn't have to look this up! So quit wasting your time, and other people's time for that matter, and only review something you have actually sat down and listened to, not just dismissed because it has 'all that pop shit' in it and not enough rock. Geez! It's just a CD! And to those people who say, oh there should be a rock version of "Now", do you even have a bloody clue that if that were to happen rock would be just as mainstream as pop??? If there was a Now rock version, rock would be more popular, and seeing as though "Pop" is an abbreviation of 'popular' (duh) then 'rock' would be 'pop' now wouldn't it? Idiots. This CD is vital, in that it gives people who love these songs and are not interested in buying every single album just to hear one song a cheaper means of doing so. What's wrong with that? They're not making you listen to it so what business is it of yours anyways? Bloody hell! And to the person who put 'music with substance' and Limp Bizkit in the same sentence...what a fool and a tool you are. Oh yes Fred Durst goes really deep and philosophical with lyrics as thought provoking as 'I did it all for the nookie...so you could take that cookie and stick it up your' and 'rollin rollin rollin, keep rollin rollin rollin'. Please. Now anyways, as for this CD I personally think it has a few good songs. Kylie's 'Love At First Sight' is probably the best song on here, an instant pop classic with one of the best pop choruses in a long time, so simple and effective it is and so smooth you could land a plane on it. Think Kylie being abducted by Daft Punk and returning with one of their excellent grooves...just brilliant. Eve and Alicia Keys team up with the fun "Gangsta Lovin'", while Shakira shows she can rock with "Objection (Tango)". Coldplay are a surprise inclusion here but they help bring the quality up with the absolutely sweet in all the right places rock of "In My Place", while Vanessa Carlton shows she's no one-hit wonder with the outstanding "Ordinary Day". And Norah Jones (another surprise inclusion) is welcome with her sweet "Don't Know Why". Other highlights include the late Aaliyah's excellently diverse "I Care 4 U", Hoobastank's rockin' "Running Away" and No Doubts reggae-influenced "Underneath It All". But this CD has it's duds, the seriously over-played "Hot In Herre" by Nelly was great at first but now is just irritating, Beenie Man and Dirty Vegas are included with their light-weight singles, while the last few tracks are stale rock ditties, just absolutely unnecessary. All in all a fair CD that showcases the mainstream's most played (except the Dixie Chicks...with all due respect why are they even on here? "Landslide" is hardly pop at all). 3 stars out of 5.

Pop music is an embarrassment even to it

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 23, 2002

My god anyone who listens to this shit has issues. Honestly, five years ago I listened to Nsync and Christina Aguilera, but eventhey got over-played and their music was beatin to death. Now the record exec.'s are practically making new singers every week in factories. Go for the good stuff, real groups who 1. WRITE their own music and 2. HAVE TALENT!!!. All these songs are really about the same thing, how much they love or dig someone, how badly their heart was broken. Come on, life is about more than your love life. What happened to the good groups? Like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Garbage, Marylin Manson, Rob Zombie. Even if you don't like these groups, at least their original with the music they make. Do yourself a favor, look for music that has SUBSTANCE, meaning groups who don't look like they still belong in high school, who don't have duplicate sugery and sweet songs, and who have little to no talent. The pop industry is only about making money, not about real music.

I read Tommy's comments and I am quite certain that they were referring to Coldplay, and British music in general. He then named some bands that he thinks are quality music, and did not label them as bands from England. Oh, and he said Great Britain, not "England". If you actually check a map, Scotland IS part of Great Britain...

Also, I wanted to say that I think you should listen to the radio if you want to hear these songs, and stop wasting your money on NOW cd's.

This is in response to the post from "Tommy_the_Cat":

    Uh, Tommy,

Not to be a nitpicker but...

    Travis is Scottish,
    Silverchair is Australian,
    and Blind Melon was American.

I'd hit the books a little more before proclaiming yourself a musical authority.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 20, 2002

Back in the day (yes, I'm a coot) we taped (heaven forbid) all of the popular songs on the radio and, I guess, invented this NOW bullsh*t. We could also buy singles of the tunes we like (for 69 cents a pop) and make the tapes any way we wanted. Now, kids buy these songs, even if they own the CDs....someone is spending a lot of money on nothing new.

    LISTEN TO SOMETHING ELSE

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 20, 2002

Great Britain has produced the greatest bands of all time. Why is everyone ignoring the music that is being made over there now? Coldplay was represented on this CD, which is an embarrassment to them, I'm sure. They are too good to be grouped with this crap. Check out these bands if you want to hear honest music that is not overplayed on the radio:

    Travis
    Radiohead
    Badly Drawn Boy
    Richard Ashcroft/The Verve
    Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
    Silverchair
    Doves
Blind Melon (We miss you, Shannon!)

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 20, 2002

Why do these people keep coming out with these cd's. The music isn't bad, it's just extremely overplayed. These songs have been playing over and over and over again. I wouldn't waste 15 bucks on a cd when I could turn on the radio to hear these songs. I think it's time for something new.

    Good if you're 10

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 19, 2002

Well, the header should just about say it. If you're 10 years old and you haven't been able to formulate your own ideas about what good music really is, then this is the cd for you. However, if you are an able-minded adult...skip it. Spend your $20 hard-earned bucks on something that really means something. There are a few good songs on this disc, but not enough to make it worth my time, anyways. If you like a song that much, go buy the band's cd.....chances are you'll like the rest of it. Compilation cd's like this are produced by music execs who believe that people have to be told what to listen to, mainly the artists they sign, because of course they make more money that way! So......don't let those greedy bastards dictate what you listen to! Follow your heart.....and walk past this cd to the section where they keep the GOOD music

they play most of these songs on the raido over and over and over and over and over again, why do u want a cd w/ those songs on it?? the only good tracks on here are the norah jones, bon jovi and dixie chicks (even though it's probably the "less country, more pop" version of the song). This crap is why I now listen to nothing but country, oldies, jazz, classic rock and classical ONLY because all this pop trash is just like an offbrand twenty dollar stereo: CRAP!
