The first single issued via Ryan Adams' own Paxamerican label spotlights demo versions of two songs that later resurfaced on his excellent Cold Roses LP, both considerably different from their "official" versions. "Now That You're Gone" is the more familiar of the two, although the rendition here is slower and more melancholy than its album incarnation, complete with hangdog strings. "If I'm a Stranger" undergoes a more radical transformationgone is the rollicking energy of the Cardinals' performance, replaced by a brittle resignation more in tune with the uncertainty of the lyrics.
