war is hell so let's avoid it
this is what the two groups of adversaries - Japanese garrison forgotten by their command and crashlanded planeload of US marines - conclude halfway into this story. Isolated on a small island and away from the immediate pressures of war they discover that they can survive in truce and mutual respect. Yet the war will not be denied - it eventually overtakes and destroys them.
