    No`direction

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 15, 2001 | 1 out of 1 found this No Code review helpful

This is really the less good PJ album. Altough most of the tracks are good when you take them one by one, the whole album really lack in direction. You got one progressive song, one folk song, one indian song, one country song, one grunge song, one pu...nk song,...what's the point? In the end, this album is a kinda big musical stew that doesn't really work. But most of all, the songs on No Code are simply not their best. In fact, Only Present Tense is really, really good. I would have put 3 stars, but No code is really disappointing for a PJ album. Read more Less

A step in a different direction

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 17, 2003

I suppose some people don't like this album, but I personally think it is an extremely good one. After Pearl Jam totally changed their sound with Vitalogy, they went even more different with No Code. This album has alot of songs that arent necess...arily real rock and roll songs, but merely songs that may not pack a punch, but are of a very hiiigh quality, songs like Off He Goes, In My Tree, and Present Tense. Although I'd have to say my favorite song on this cd is Red Mosquito, this is one of the songs on the album that is more rock, but in a non conventional way, overall it's just a great cd and a great departure from the ordinary. Pretty Good

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 15, 2002

Most Pearl Jam fans think that this album is a disgrace, but I on the other hand have to disagree. "Ten","Vs", and "Vitalogy" are all very good records, and although No Code may show that the band has matured, the quality of their music hasn't change...d. Songs like "In My Tree" and "Smile" just shows how creative this album is. Overall this is one of the most mellow records Pearl Jam ever released, but don't let that bother you. No Code is simply an example of how good Pearl Jam is. Ten, Vs, and Vitalogy was a fine example of their more heavy side, and No Code is a fine example of their more mellow material. Read more Less

    Relaxed Pearl Jam

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 23, 2001

I read many reviews before buying No Code. They were mixed, some trying to destroy PJ. I was surprised. Either way I brought it. I had the feeling the cardboard CD cases will stay, I was also hoping that it'll fit in my CD tower/case (Vitalogy was to... big to fit). I poped the CD in, and listened to it whole. WOW! Yes, the sound was different, but it was still PJ. Yes, it never topped the charts, but who cares...it's the sound, lyrics, and effort. I liked the album. I love more of PJ's harder sounds like in their previous albums, but it's still great. Read more Less

    Hail Hail

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 18, 2001

This is a unique record with a wider sound than most other bands I have heard. No songs sound similar on this album, they almost don't fit, and that is what makes the album so good.

    a diamond in the rough.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 25, 2001

"no code" truly is a diamond compared to empty albums released by other bands of then and now. three words- DEPTH IN SONGWRITING! vedder shines britely as ever on this album. dylan who? these clever lyrics will have you striving for years to capture ...their full capacity. besides the song writing, every song on this cd is great overall. traces of any type of music can be found in these songs. great album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 20, 2001

it took a little while to get into it but now that i am it one of my favorite albums. it alot slower than other albums but that doesnt matter, cos i really appreciate the lyrics and meanings of each song. i a person who has to know what the song is a...bout. i hate ppl who pose and pretend to like stuff when they dont know what they are singing about. overall a great original sounding album, way too under- rated.
