Download this album - do not pay for it. The only one who deserves to profit from this release is dead.

    Stop the ignorance!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 24, 2002 | 2 out of 2 found this Nirvana review helpful

I love reading the reviews of CDs on Yahoo. Very entertaining because everyone has different tastes .. right or wrong .. but who is right???? No one! The fact is that Kurt and the gang was probably one of the most influential bands of the 90s .. hard... to disagree for anyone that actually owns a radio or visited a music store in the past 10 years. If you didn't like them .. fine ... don't make comments for their records .. turn the station. I am a fan of a all types of music and happen to own everyting that Nirvana has ever released. Why??? Because I enjoy their music. If you don't .. don't buy the album .. very simple. It amazes me that people line up to show their ignorance for the simple reason that they like a another band or sound in music. Of course I haven't heard the new album .. but it's Nirvana .. and sure I will love it. If you want to download the sond and it will make you happy ... fine do that! I'm sure I will enjoy every song (heard most of them) and will buy the new album (because I can afford it and want to). Personal prefence .. and nothing anyone will say on Yahoo will change that. So if your not a fan .. grab your favorite CD and log off .. if you are .. go out and buy it to enjoy the songs. I really don't care who is getting the money ... don't think it's going to make me lose sleep. If you want to continue showing you ignorance, post away! Read more Less

What do people consider real music?

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 25, 2002 | 1 out of 1 found this Nirvana review helpful

After having read all of these reviews, I can't help but wonder what all these people bashing Nirvana consider to be real music. First of all, almost none of the music that is popular today has any meaning whatsoever, especially hip hop, pop, etc. ...There are some decent rock bands out there, some just now hitting it big (Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback), some still alive and kicking (Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam--new album Nov. 12--new tune is awesome.) But none of these bands had the effect that Nirvana had. Not only did Nirvana change the face of music, they changed the face of society, perhaps more than any other single band ever. As I said before, I'm curious to know what these negative viewpoints listen to now, because it seems to me that they're the types that jump the bandwagon. My guess is that they listened to Nirvana when it was "cool" to do so, and now they listen to hip hop because it is now the "cool" genre. (Of course, I'm sure that doesn't apply to our throwback, Poison-fan friends.) The plain fact is that Nirvana as a single band changed society in a magnitude that has not been done since. The fact that such a debate has been sparked by "album reviews" years after the band died only proves the point. Especially when people who claim to have nothing but distaste for the band take the time to write. If the band really was so inconsequential, why take the time to do so. Just go listen to your manufactured music by your manufactured pop and hip hop groups and try to convince yourself it's worth listening to. As for me, I will continue to listen to the greatest bands of all time, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Tragically Hip, Pearl Jam, and of course Nirvana, just to name a few. And I will continue to listen to the worthwhile new rock and hope they do well in carrying the torch. I for one will be buying the album regardless of the controversy of whether the fans are getting screwed or where the money is going. I hope the money gets to Kurt's little girl and I hope no one else sees a dime. Maybe some way Kurt will know there's at least a faithful few of us who really got what he was saying and it wasn't just a passing fad. If you don't like Nirvana, too bad. Just like all great bands before, it will always be around. Let's wait ten years and see where your hip hop stars are. If you can remember their names. Read more Less

    ripoffs of ripoffs

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 23, 2002 | 1 out of 1 found this Nirvana review helpful

To claim Nirvana ripped off the stones, is claiming the stones ripped off elvis, or elvis ripped off black singers. Its called influence. Kurt got his influence from 70s punk and rock acts. Clash, Pistols, Queen, and many other undergund bands Ive... never heard of. Nirvana was the pioneer of the "alternatvie" scene. Sure it had been done before, but they took it to the limelight. Because of one song/album the USA realized how silly hairbands (like poison) were and all of sudden wearing makeup and singing about doing girls or drugs just wasnt "in" anymore. Kurt was the 90s John Lennon. He didnt want it, but he was forced into it. Grunge took shape and all of sudden the people that mocked him and made fun of the "losers" were singing his songs and dressing like him, when before they were wearing the poison tshirts. Its not hard to see why he would get so pissed off and hate everyone including himself. Nirvana being mainstream was their downfall. Im glad their releasing a greatest hits album, but I hope they dont become like the beatles and have a CD every other year come out with the same songs remastered in different ways. Just let the band go off into history.nph Read more Less

Okay. So the tracklist is good. But the ONLY reason to buy this album is "You Know You're Right." Download the song instead, and buy all six (Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, In Utero, Unplugged, and Live) separately. YKYR is great, but DOWNLOAD IT an...d BUY ALL OF NIRVANA'S ALBUMS! I finally reached nirvana

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 3, 2007

    Pros: Divine enlightenment

Cons: I wish for more tracks!!!

Cardinal rule of being a kid growing up in the early 90s-if you don't know how to headbang, you get your ass kicked by punks in the playground or in the schoolbus. As a wimp's unabashed response, he listens to the Seattle-based Nirvana. Nirv...ana simply means a divine state of enlightenment. For Kurt Cobain and his band mates, they paved the way towards it for angst-filled souls of youth. Despite the untimely demise of Nirvana's lead singer, Kurt Cobain, in 1994, the band has left one indelible mark in any youngster's soul at that time. Remember how staple their Nevermind album to any youngster's CD collection? Tracks such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "In Bloom" and "Lithium" are perennial favorites. Such tracks are even found in their 2002 greatest hits release which also features tracks from their "In Utero" album. This greatest hits CD opens with the previously unreleased track "You Know You're Right", which is said to be the final song Cobain wrote and recorded with the band in January 1994. Not to be missed are the hits "All Apologies", "Heart-shaped Box", and "Rape Me" which truly proves that this album is a must for anyone's collection. Read more Less
