This is one of the 1st Japanese Sword & Splatter movies I had ever seen when it came on at 2A.M on THE MOVIE CHANNEL back in 1985. I have to honestly say at 9 years old this movie scared the crap out of me! I own a store bought copy of this now and I have to say that this is one of the BEST Samurai films created, after 'SHOGUN ASSASSIN' (To Purchase Shogun Assassin, which is said to be Out Of Print, get the DVD by going to this web page: http:/
I have yet to see him, but Jackie Chan stated in his autobiographical book: 'I AM JACKIE CHAN: My Life In Action' that he had a cameo in this movie because he wanted to work with Sonny Chiba. The best way for me to describe this movie is: If you've ever seen the Japanese Animation movie 'NINJA SCROLL', they got the story somewhat from 'NINJA WARS'. NINJA WARS is basically the live action version that paved the way for the animation version! And like I said before it is also very eerie!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
